I believe if you don't want AppleCare, you can still buy the device and call Apple and have it removed from your account and get a refund. This has been mentioned on previous posts, but I have no experience with us.

For TMO, you just need to have a debit card on file. You can pay with CC before your auto pay debit is scheduled.

If you go onto the Costco website, there is a opportunity to trade in your device. They will not count the value of your device against the purchase price. They will send you a Costco card.

Exactly, prices have increased over the years for unlocked phones, but so has the top of line androids (ie. galaxy s24+ or pixel pro) so both are pretty comparable in prices.
If you are in market for the iphone 15 pro and can't wait, this is a fabulous deal for unlocked and not dealing with complicated carrier upgrades.
Totally agree. I have always used unlocked phones with my $15-20 monthly plans unlimited text call and 3GB data or so.
So need a good unlocked phone deal. Smilie

So this doesn't require any activation with a carrier correct?

if you read the poster in full, you will see costco bundles Applecare, basically you are getting Applecare for free ($199 savings).
I know that. I don't care about getting applecare. Even with getting $150 or so back for returning applecare, which is not guaranteed, I think this is still not a good deal.

I along with a few friends are on a family plan with T-Mobile that runs our monthly bills to 200ish for 10 lines we got some 6-7 years ago.

My wife uses Tmobile prepaid for $15 monthly unlimited text call and 2gb data so I got her iPhone SE 3rd gen on Verizon and bought their one month service and phone automatically unlocked after 60 days.

A whole 128GB?!?😂 😂 😂 I got my S24 Ultra 1tb for less.
Apple/Samsung/Google (in that order) have been gouging the hell out of phone buyers for years now, so nothing new there. The difference is Apple appeases shareholders by absolutely ripping buyers off on component costs because most people no longer upgrade every 1-2 years.

Samsung on the other hand offers better pricing overall versus storage/camera/etc, but has lower resale value and is terribly slow for security updates. Like, Samsung gets an F here for failing hard. Samsung also used to be the absolute worst for long-term software support, but recently increased their update policy to 4 years of major Android OS updates (which isn't great, but better than it used to be). That still sucks versus Apple and Google, but is better than nearly all the other lower-cost Android options like Motorola or OnePlus.

Google offers excellent phones for the price, but the reason for that "discount" is that YOU ARE THE PRODUCT. All the information they collection from you via Android (which applies to Samsung et al as well) subsidizes their business model.

Bottom line: I've used all 3 brands across multiple phones including some great past Android phones like Motorola, HTC way back when, LG, etc. If you can afford to spend $1000 on a phone every 2-4 years, definitely weigh the trade offs with each ecosystem. As a current Apple user I hate the walled garden, but when you add in the watches, tablets, laptops, I like most of it better than being run over roughshod by Google targeting (never giving up my PC though).

I can't imagine why Apple would refund part of a purchase made at a store other than Apple. It seems to me Costco should be the one to refund the AppleCare.
