Fine, I'll make my own announcement.

Geeesh...if this is how they are going to treat me now that I'm on the team......hmmmph. laugh out loud

OK here's the scoop...are you paying attention?

I had a nice long phone interview with Bryantq back in Nov. and last week they flew me in to Vegas for the face-to-face interview.
The night before last, Bryantq informed me that I did indeed get the job. Yahoo! Whee I will be starting as the CRM of slickdeals on January 11th (barring any travel delays). They have informed me that they want to start me off as a Moderator while I'm still here in MI wrapping things up and prepping to move so that I can see what things are like behind the scenes.

*The Wizard is letting me see behind the curtain. nod

I have the next 2 weeks off work due to the holidays and then Jan.4th I will go back to my driving job for my last day. On Jan 5th, Bea and I will get in my car and start the 2100 mile drive to Las Vegas. Faint
I think I know what Dorthy felt like on her trip to Oz.

I am extremely excited about this opportunity and a tad...scared as hell! laugh out loud
I only have about 1015 things to do in the next 2 weeks.

Ummm since I can't even sticky my own announcement...that I had to make for myself...this feels a bit anticlimactic. Sadwalk

This whole thing is just a cost-cutting measure for Slickdeals. It should reduce the wear and tear on the servers by a bunch by keeping Jane busy doing other things.

Congrats! Wow, that's really wonderful for you!
Instead of the standard bus layout, replace each seat with a "pod". In place of the center aisle is a mount for said pod. When you get to the stop in the evening, the driver just punches a button on the dash and the pod is fired out onto the kid's lawn. In the morning, a recall system sucks the pod back onto the bus. No student interaction, no bus fights. Big Grin
Hmmm I KNOW I've seen this before.....but where...

Congrats to you Schooby! Grouphug

This sounds like a wonderful opportunity for you (and Bea). And you never have to shovel snow again! I'm really happy for you.

A tip for your move: Really think hard about the stuff you want to move. It may be cheaper to buy a lot of new stuff in Vegas when you get there. Uh, unless you plan on driving a moving truck full of stuff out there, in which case I'd say you are Crazy to do that in the winter.

It's great to see SD hiring someone that's not a total asshat. Thumbup

Are you going to be responsible for rolling out SlickCash?

I am leaving most of my furniture here...too costly and not worth doing so when I will be in an apartment...unless I then rent a storage place too...I will move very little out there and really be starting over. Another reason to look into a newer car.
And thanks. hug
Actually, I had considered renting a larger Uhaul and towing my car...but hell that's expensive in itself.

Congrats Jane!!! Sounds like this is the perfect job for you and your health. Welcome to the dry air, I think you will love it, I do.

Jane will laugh when she gets to Vegas in January and people are wearing thermals and full face masks because it's below 50 degree then she'll be there in July when it's 115, and wonder what she got herself into. then she'll marvel how 103 does feel cooler than 115 laugh out loud

I don't even live in Vegas, but those are the things I went through on my many trips there laugh out loud
It's true. They break out the winter wear when it gets below 50 and say how it's freezing! Um freezing is like 32 or something. It hadn't been above 20 here in almost three weeks, until yesterday and when I went outside I knew it was back up to mid 30s it just felt so much warmer.

you should get moved by the australian army. they'll pack everything up for you including paint sticks in the garage. wtf did you move that? well its just habit. you don't bring a colonel's paint sticks and he says he wanted it you get screwed.

It's been a few years since I did this so you'd want to check and make sure the info is still accurate... but UHaul and Ryder both have (had, at least) a policy that they would undercut a competitor's written quote.

So what I did was went to UHaul and got a quote, then took it to Ryder and got them to undercut it... then took Ryder's quote back to UHaul. I'm sure you can see where this is going. Coverlaugh

I ended up getting my truck & auto transport for less than half the original quote. YMMV of course. Wink5

Just something to think about. Best of luck to ya. hug
