Chat asked me to call 1-800-347-3085, and all that rep mentioned was a promo APR. Do I need to explicitly ask for retention or am I SOL? I do max out certain 5% categories from time to time, but don't use the card outside of that.

Asked chat and gave me 3% upto $1500 in 6 months. But after an hour i got alert from credit karma that there was a hard credit pull. Chat never asked for credit inquery. Did anyone else had hard credit pull for the promo offer?

got two cards with 0% for 12 months new purchases. Thxs Op!
No brainer here since I have international trips this month. Discover does not charge fees out of country, plus 1% on transactions, and no payments till 6/2025 while that money I have is paying me interest. Great timing.

I often get offers for additional cash back from use of a credit card but I must activate the offer. I am suspicious of the disadvantages. I assume I must give up something to get the offer. I have not taken the time to investigate.

YMMV but Discover is the least accepted card outside of the US by far, at least in my experience.
