Seller includes an adapter in case you run into this issue. I bought the 12tb model from them, and it's currently in my NAS now.

FWIW, The model WUH721414ALE604 has power disable pin 3 support, which may not play nicely with NAS servers. There are ways around it, google "hack on the SATA connector pin #3"

E604 = 512e SATA 6Gb/s + Power disable pin 3 support + no encryption

Newegg will go out of their way to protect and enable shady/shitty sellers, and their support is terrible. Though this particular seller is fine, I'd try to find their listings somewhere else rather than support Newegg in any way.

I just got 6 of these for my NAS 2 days ago.

Anyone with experience of getting a price match?

y'all are crazy with these mechanical drives, absolutely frying in datacenter server racks for years
Well, I bought an m.2 SSD with almost TWICE the average Terabytes Written rating, to be used only for booting, so I wouldn't have to worry about it. Guess what? It is the only boot drive I've ever had that crapped out after just 14 months. (my spinny hard drives have always lasted 3+ years) Thankfully, it is being replaced under the warranty.

Keep in mind that these are ENTERPRISE drives. It's like they have been endurance tested, and they are still working. I'd much rather have an enterprise level drive that has been tested for a year or more that is still working, than be a guinea pig on a brand new drive.

Put a nice heatsink on one of these, and it should run a lot cooler, too.

I think this is a solid deal for someone who knows how to properly leverage these as part of a tiered data redundancy strategy. I would personally not put these in any sort of raid setup that can't survive two failures within a close period of time if you aren't also doing a full backup of that data elsewhere- but of course you're doing backups, right??

Or if this is being used for replaceable data - ie a gigantor Steam library.
This should be policy with new hard drives as well.

To think I trust a vendor named "goharddrivee" over Newegg these days. As someone who has purchased several of the 12tb refurbs from them successfully.

Yep - I've had more new drives fail than decommissioned used. I also have a couple Maxtor SAS drives that I just removed from service, with 16 years of service time, and they still checked out fine in HD Sentinel stress testing, and have no bad bearing noise. The high-endurance/dwpd SSDs at half the age that were removed at the same time have used up most of their reserved space from NAND wearing out.

Drives from servers located in a datacenter run much cooler than anything I have at home, including my 4u array servers with quieter fans. Very unlikely to have been frying. They'll be chugging along at 35C in a datacenter, but in an open air USB dock, the same drive can jump to 60C+ under load. Even higher in hotswap bays in a tower case that doesn't 't have forced-air cooling for those bays. I know which environment I'd rather trust.

Side note, does anyone know what the two jumper pins next to the sata ports are for?

I've bought so many things from newegg and never had a problem, so I'm not sure where all the hate is coming from. Is there something I should know about buying from newegg that I dont know about?

We made it a whole page before someone came in to tell us he would never use a used hard drive. Is that a record for slick deals?

So if noegg sells them for go hard drive, who shipps it and services it? I wont trust noegg to ship anything. I trust even lees that noegg stands by it either. Might as well get it off CL.

warranty provided by goharddrive, and drop shipped by GHD as well. GHD will not transport these to newegg to ship, That makes zero sense based on weight and labor.

Newegg ships. a couple of weeks ago i posted the 16tb deal. one of my drives was DOA. it was pretty painless to return it to Newegg for a replacement that arrived in 2 days. replacement drive passed the write + read test in HD Sentinel no issue.

Maybe a dumb question, but... here goes.

If I use this (or another hard drive), how long should I expect it to be safe as a functioning drive if I back up stuff and stick it on a shelf?

I have an older WD or Seagate that I did that with, and it wont even spin up now.

Thanks
