Quote from cymek :
Paul Reed Smith (the person) said in a recent interview that the way to tell a good guitar from a poorly made guitar is all down to how long it can sustain a note (without effects). "A good guitar will ring about 45 seconds. A "bad" guitar will ring about 12 seconds." I would be curious to see how well the HB guitars hold up to Mr. Smith's observation.

He also wants to sell you ✨️ tonewood ✨️ and tries to convince you that it dramatically affects the tone of an electric guitar in a way that cannot be verified or proven with science because ...violins.

So, I'm not sure Paul Reed Smith, the expensive electric guitar salesman who believes in magic, is someone that you should consider to be a trustworthy authority on the topic.

This is an excellent deal! If you don't have a Telecaster but do have $500, this seems like a good trade.

If you actually watch the video I linked, Smith explains that sustain length not only shows if the maker used cheap parts (plastic nut, junk bridge) but also how well the guitar was assembled. Tonewood has little to do with that.

Now what he talks about with wood choices affecting tone does make sense. If you look at an acoustic guitar, you can take the same model guitar made with the same sides and back, but if you put a spruce top on it the guitar sounds very different than the same guitar with a mahogany top. It also stands to reason that a guitar made out of Aluminum (see Fender 1994 Anniversary Stratocasters) sound different than the same model made out of wood. So if that is the case, wood choice can affect tone. Balsa wood is going to have different properties than maple. But then, he also says that the Danelectro Jimmy Page played, that was basically made out of cardboard, had a very unique sound to it.

Looked okay when I just clicked. You have to use the link provided since it has the discount/email code in the parameter list of the URL. They sell for the regular price to anyone who comes in off the web via search without the discount URL.

Thanks everyone for the HB comments. I think I'm gonna wait to see if they release a higher end T-style like they did w/ the Strats.

They punch above their price but some people are delusional about them.
You know what, I think it's shifted. I think the delusional ones might the those who still think USA made is worth a $1.5k premium. These are really really good guitars. Unless you want the Rolex like status of MIA, there's very little functional difference for most.

If you missed the deal, get this instead for $195. I'm tempted but I really don't need anymore guitars.

Great deal for those who need the Fender logo.

Harley Benton just released the ST-Modern Plus guitars with incredible specs (strat/superstrat style). Not sure if they'll be releasing a tele-style series in the near future. Worth waiting if you are not in the market for a tele right now.
I would not purchase a knockoff when an original is available at a great price.

Unfortunately I prefer a belly cut on a guitar. I had this guitar and even though it was nice I just couldn't get comfortable with it. I purchased a Nashville telecaster instead. Great deal though and just personal opinion.
Why not get rid of the belly? Wink

Why Fender if claiming original? Get a G&L instead. I happen to have a G&L ASAT that is more "original" than a Fender Tele. To a certain extent, Fender is actually a knockoff of G&L.
