The lowest I've seen with an EDU discount is $998. Looks like Sony is clearing up inventory to make way for the new Sony A7 V. My prediction is it will remain at 33 MP, but improved IQ, same 5.69M dot EVF, same LCD screen as A7R V, ai chip like A7c ii, better video capabilities.

A7 IV might come down to 2k price ($1.5k with edu) and the new A7 V will be at $2,498.00 or more.

At the same time they might announce an A1 ii with global shutter. Also A7S IV with a higher MP to be able to shoot 8k. I am predicting this summer or by Oct.

edit: price and A1 ii

LMAO. This is not an "entry" level camera. It was pro level when it was released and still is today.

Are these still worth buying in 2024? The price seems right but the body is several years old now.

$1,1k is already a decent price for the body and its a very capable camera, but lowest was $998 so you're in the ballpark. I don't expect it to come down so much like the A7 ii as those are terrible cameras. The kit lens suck anyways so you really have to upgrade to a better lens to make the most use out of this camera.

edit price.

I would say entry level just starting off, then yes. A7 IV is a big improvement but still at $2.2k, I've seen it go on sale only once at $1,700, usually on sale around $2k. So is the $1k difference between the A7 III and A7 IV justified? For some yes, some some no, you'll have to do research on your own what suits your needs. But overall A7 III is a very capable camera paired with a good lens, and its a deal at this price.

I stayed away from A7 iii though because of tons of reports of shutter failure. But if you don't always do a lot of burst shooting then I think you'll be fine

Stick to your iphone. These are too much for the common folk.
With the right glass these "old cameras" produce Profesional images.
Cmon now it's a legitimate question/discussion. Is it still a good camera? Yes but it is also an older camera. The iv has been out for quite some time and the v is about to come out. Everything has a cost/value to it. This is not even the lowest price we have seen for the iii. When the iii came out, it didn't take long for the ii with kit lens to go under 1k. That's what I think the iii needs to be at to be even considered. Technically, if you really know what you are doing and you have the right glass, you can take great pictures with the ii or for that matter tons of cameras costing less than this.

Kit lens is f/3.5-5.6. If you get serious at all about photography you'll quickly outgrow this lens.

The sensors in Sony cameras haven't really improved all that much in the last I don't know, decade? So the A7 III is still a very capable camera, but it kind of depends what you're shooting. What has improved drastically over the years with Sony cameras is their auto-focus system. So if you're gonna be shooting wildlife or sports, I would not recommend the A7 III. But for everything else, it's great.

Also, I have somewhat large hands, so I personally don't care for the smaller body of the A7 III - just something to be aware of.

Absolutely. And this price is a steal. They go for this price used in marketplace. The eye autofocus is still very good. Better than my recent Fuji body. These are durable and reliable cameras. If I didn't have several A7IV bodies I'd consider getting this as a backup. I'd highly recommend. it's entry level considering today's modern tech, but I'm sure there are several pros who stick with what they are used to and has worked for them. Like most people I like having the latest and greatest but if all I had was this my work would probably look just as good.
