I don't know anything about Wyze v4.

I have several of the Wyze V3s and several of the Tapo C120s, and they're all good, but the C120s are better for my use case:

Tapo pros:
Reliable live view
Reliable recording to microsd
Native RTSP support
Easy access to microsd recordings by zooming in on timeline or playing at 4x
AI includes vehicles, pets, and people
Tapo cons:
No rich notifications in mobile app

Wyze v3 pros:
Reliable live view
Reliable recording to microsd
Rich notifications
free cloud backup of 12 second event videos
cons:
5-minute cool-down period between notifications
AI for people only
Tedious to find events that occur during cool-down period without pulling microsd
No native RTSP, but there are workarounds like Tinycam pro

Overall, if you want live view and microsd recording just-in-case then they both work fine. If you're fine with the 5-minute-cool-down-period then Wyze v3 has better notifications. If you need to regularly review events that could happen more frequently than every 5 minutes (i.e. did mailman come 2 mins after a car drove by) then Tapo is the way to go.

Both offer more features if you pay monthly, but I can only speak to the free plans.

PSA: For those only on Cam Plus Lite (discontinued for new users earlier this year), be aware there is an app bug (which is affecting more & more people as time passes), where adding/activating a new cam to your account - such as a v3, will either cause the "Playback" button during Events to be greyed out (if on an older version of the app) or will say there is no MicroSD Card installed (if on the newer/latest version of the app).

Viewing Playback with a MicroSD Card through Live View still works, it's only the Playback (direct view to timestamp on SD card) in the Event Clips that is bugged.

So users now have to either write down or memorize the exact time, then go to Live View, then Playback & scroll to the time to see the full event (before & after the 12 second clip).

This bug first appeared around February 2024, a Wyze Employee claimed in April they found the cause, but so far there is still no fix & honestly doesn't look like they'll fix it since we're on the free grandfathered Cam Plus Lite subscription.

Here are some of the more active threads about this issue:

I loved my Wyze cams over the years, they were cheap simple and just worked.

Pre-ordered V4 off their site, apparently it came with a free subscription that was activated at purchase, I was billed a month later and even after contacting their CS they would not refund me. Note that the cams weren't even opened yet. Y u do dis wyze?

Their move to aggressive sub models is gross.

Thanks for listening to my sadpepe story.

Yes, local. What device will you use to view?
I have TV with Google TV and tiny cam pro app is loaded on it.

It works right now but stream goes to Wyze cloud and then comes back to TV.

That title got me thinking it was 2 for $20 as well. Needs to be edited.
I thought it was two cameras for $20.

Now I have my own question, is the pan v3 considered a "v3" that can still get cam lite plus?
Unfortunately no, according to Wyze [wyze.com].

where is that? i didnt know the wyze firmware had rtsp settings?
I'm confused. Did you do this?
https://github.com/gtxaspec/wz_mi...stallation
The point of that was to get the rtsp files on the camera. have you viewed the camera in the app? In the app, Rtsp is under settings, advanced settings, scroll to the bottom. I have no experience with tinycam, I use the rtsp config in vlc. The strem protocol will look something like this:rtsp://user:[email protected]/live.

can anyone recommend a security cam that has both wired and wireless connection? I read that burgulars these days bring a wifi jammer, rendering all these wireless cams useless.

Can you buy this at costco store physically? So if you go there with a $25 costco card to make a purchase and pay the rest with cash, you can buy this there or it has to be online?

What micro sd card works with this? My old wyzecam 2 stopped working and it has a microsd card stuck in it but not sure it that microsd card works or not. I don't have access to either of these right now. I am going to get a wyzecam 3. So which microsd card works with it? I recalled I bought from amazon a sandisk microsd card a while back that worked with it and believe it is 32gb but not sure. But can you use any size gb microsd card with it? I thought a while back it was said you could only uses a 32gb microsd card with the wyzecam 2? Or even if you use a 64gb or 128gb microsd card with wyzecam2, it only uses up 32gb? So what about the wyzecam 3? I notice on amazon, they selling a 32gb wyzecam microsd card for like 11 dollars so is that the best option or just get a sandisk 32gb microsd card for like 8 dollars less since wyzecam is overcharging for their own microsd card?

I am going to use the wyzecame 3 with the freecam plus lite that I used with wyzecam 2.
Can someone answer these questions? If I order it now at costco online, it shows I won't receive it till early next week and I have to get it by then. Or I might go to costco later this week to buy it at the physical store but does anyone know if they sell it at the physical costco store?

What about the micro sd card? I don't have any micro sd card with me though I do have one that is in the nonworking wyzecam 2 but I do not have access to either right now. I recall buying a sandisk 32gb microsd card years ago to use with the wyzecam 2. Which microsd card should I buy to use with the wyzecam 3? It'a a waste buying the wyzecam 32gb microsd card as it's overpriced right though it isn't that much more than a sandisk? But can you use a 64gb microsd card or bigger? I remember a while back it was said 32gb was the only size microsd card that worked.... or if you used a bigger one like 64gb or 128gb, it didn't matter because it only recorded up to 32gb and then wiped itself? Has that changed or I wrote something wrong?

I recall someone said if you have your microsd card record continously which most people do, I remember it was 2 weeks straight before the 32gb micro sd wiped itself right? So with a 64gb microsd card, it would be about a month etc? So which microsd card should I buy? Is getting a sandisk 32 microsd card good enough? I was fine with how I used the wyzecam 2 with the microsd card as I used the free camplus lite with it.

No such rtsp settings under advanced. In the config file, I have set user/pwd both blank under rtsp.

edit: I set a user/password but still not able to connect in vlc. it prompts the user/pwd pop-up form but after entering them fails to connect. the web server is loading in browser and I can see the feed in the config page.

Call or go to the store is the only way to find out,it's probably not in store. Micro sd up to 256gb formatted exFat, The higher class card you get, the longer it will last.

Without the rtsp setting turned on, it won't stream rtsp. Either the install is wrong, or Wyze has removed the setting, which I see no evidence of on reddit , and it still shows in my settings Restart the camera maybe by disconnecting the power. Blank user, pswd won't work.

Okay so microsd card 32gb would last about 2 weeks continous recording before it wipes itself out right? 64gb would be about a month etc? So a 256gb microsd card would allow you to record many months before it overwrites it?

Made couple changes to config file (changed port to 554, added some rtsp video parameters) and used "unicast" at end of the rtsp link. Working now. I have a v3 on the 9.139 firmware. There is no rtsp setting in wyze app. All config is done in the config file.

I assume you knew about where they've hidden cam plus lite now? Account -> services -> 3 dots top right -> 3 dots cam plus lite -> manage camera. Now you tick the box for the new camera you added. Very sneaky.

curious if you have opt for $0 for the cam plus lite? And would they still ask for a credit card number with $0 payment?

Interesting, thanks for the info. Been a few months since I did mine, I have older firmware, so may be why I still see it.
