I have several of the Wyze V3s and several of the Tapo C120s, and they're all good, but the C120s are better for my use case:
Tapo pros:
Reliable live view
Reliable recording to microsd
Native RTSP support
Easy access to microsd recordings by zooming in on timeline or playing at 4x
AI includes vehicles, pets, and people
Tapo cons:
No rich notifications in mobile app
Wyze v3 pros:
Reliable live view
Reliable recording to microsd
Rich notifications
free cloud backup of 12 second event videos
cons:
5-minute cool-down period between notifications
AI for people only
Tedious to find events that occur during cool-down period without pulling microsd
No native RTSP, but there are workarounds like Tinycam pro
Overall, if you want live view and microsd recording just-in-case then they both work fine. If you're fine with the 5-minute-cool-down-period then Wyze v3 has better notifications. If you need to regularly review events that could happen more frequently than every 5 minutes (i.e. did mailman come 2 mins after a car drove by) then Tapo is the way to go.
Both offer more features if you pay monthly, but I can only speak to the free plans.
Viewing Playback with a MicroSD Card through Live View still works, it's only the Playback (direct view to timestamp on SD card) in the Event Clips that is bugged.
So users now have to either write down or memorize the exact time, then go to Live View, then Playback & scroll to the time to see the full event (before & after the 12 second clip).
This bug first appeared around February 2024, a Wyze Employee claimed in April they found the cause, but so far there is still no fix & honestly doesn't look like they'll fix it since we're on the free grandfathered Cam Plus Lite subscription.

Pre-ordered V4 off their site, apparently it came with a free subscription that was activated at purchase, I was billed a month later and even after contacting their CS they would not refund me. Note that the cams weren't even opened yet. Y u do dis wyze?
Their move to aggressive sub models is gross.
Thanks for listening to my sadpepe story.

How are yours connected to the wifi, and what router are you using? Is the SSID they are using possibly blocked from internet access?
Thanks. If I wanted to hire someone local to set that up, who would I look for? The geek guys at best buy or some local cyber security firm?
As far as the cams, you just install the app on your phone and create an account, connect your phone to the new guest network wifi (just while setting up the cams), and then the app has you scan a QR code on the camera. Then you just name it (Garage, Front Yard, etc...) and you're done.
You can access the cams from the Wyze website or from your phone app. You can also add a widget to your phone's home screen for quick access to each cam.

Thanks again. I already have a couple of EZviz cameras monitoring things and thought I might add a couple more with these. I also would like to install a freezer monitor that would send alerts via wifi but things accessing my network scares me a bit. I'll contact AT&T to ask about setting up a guest network. Having the app on my phone also seems a little questionable but I don't really access bank accounts and the like via phone.
Edit: Guest network is set up... thanks again!
So with wyzecam 3, let's say you get a 32gb micro sd card. It would probably be 3 or 4 days or so before it wipes old footage right? But that is assuming it is 1080p recording? What if it is recording at 720p? It would be 4-5 days?
Would people recommend against getting a 32gb micro sd card and going for at least a 128gb micro sd card? Back then when I used wyzecam 2, I used a 32gb micro sd card and I remember it recorded close to 2 weeks before it deleted old footage. Someone else said they had wyzecam 2 and 32gb microsd and said it was about a week before it deleted old footage. I don't remember exactly how long it was but I recall it was 2 weeks though I might be incorrect since someone else said they are sure it is 1 week.
So getting 128gb micro sd card would record for at least 12 days right at 1080p? But 2 weeks at 720p? So a 256gb micro sd card would record up to 24 days or even close to 28 days then? However, in what scenarios do you need a big microsd card space like 128gb or 256gb compared to a 32gb or 64gb microsd card? If you are going to check the footage daily or every 2 days, it isn't necessary then to get any bigger than 32gb? But for people who don't check for a while and want to check like 2 weeks or more, that is why they get 128gb or 256gb?
I was just going to get a 32gb microsd card for like 8 dollars but it seems a 128gb microsd card is double that amount only at 16 dollars. So it worth it to get bigger microsd card even if you don't really need it? The thing is I don't use cameras or android phone so is there any other use for a microsd camera? I have like 2 32gb micro sd cards for 2 other wyzecams already. Are people fine just using 32gb microsd card? Just wondering what the situation would be where you should get at least 128gb or 256gb compared to 32gb micro sd card. Thanks.
2-Pack Wyze Floodlight Pro Security Cam is now $229.99
It was a no at $169 definite no way at $229 considering support issues and there are other items on the market. You could also just put a $20 v3 or v4 under your motion light or buy a motion light for $30 and have the same outcome. Biggest issue is pricing for their cam plus pro cloud after the free subscription.

Is it better to buy a bigger micro sd card size even if you don't need it? I don't use cameras or have android phone or use anything like nintendo switch which I heard all requires micro sd cards. Someone says that a 32gb micro sd card records a bit more than 4 days. Is that enough for most people? I thought it was fine as I have the free camplus lite. But if you could buy a 128gb one that cost double the price for 4 times, the store, it make sense to buy that instead? Imagine $8.50 for a 32gb and $17 for a 128gb. I mean that would give you up to 16 days of footage? Would something like this be good?
