I think you are giving bad advice. My demonologist recommended petroleum jelly after surgery. The daily procedure was to clean the wound with water and soap, apply petroleum jelly, then cover the wound. The soap is what washes the bacteria away while the petroleum jelly keeps it moist for faster healing and smaller scars.

You sure that Demonologists are the right people to be seeking medical advice from? lol, anyways, that's cute but no, it shouldn't be used as a long term solution, you can apply it to the wound once washed if petroleum jelly is all you have in hand but then you have to address it properly with antibiotic cream and a band-aid/gauze as a PROPER solution.

It's the 'third' antibiotic (neomycin) that causes the allergic reaction that article is referring to. There aren't really any definitive studies on whether plain jelly is as good as antibiotic ointment. Allergic reactions to bacitracin (one of the other antibiotics in this triple antibiotic) are extremely rare so that's the one I would go with. Leave the other two antibiotics out.

Neosporin (aka neomycin) is notorious for causing a contact dermatitis similar to poison oak/ivy. Patients can develop an itchy rash with clear blisters and weeping lesions. The placement of an occlusive bandage with neomycin ointment over a wound will potentiate the onset of the rash. Most hospitals don't use antibacterial ointments that contain neomycin for this reason. They recommend simple wound irrigation with soap and clean water. The antibiotic ointment they usually use is bacitracin ointment. Amazon is shipping my S&S to the Amazon locker regardless of throwing an error and alerting me. I fixed the address but they shipped anyway and it's currently listed on my subscriptions. Never could understand why they couldn't make it work.
