None of these are deal-breakers, but this system is notably:

- A little loud/vibrates while in use
- 1:1 clean to dirty water usage. For $80 more, you can get 2:1
- 400 GPD is really slow. Again, for $80 more you get 600 GPD. Neither are particularly fast though.

Here's another option at $279: https://www.amazon.com/Waterdrop-...08746G2XX/

I have it, you need an electrical connection (120v) but is way better than needed to wait for water. 3 years with mine and so far very good.

The tank type is slower — but that's why they have a tank! You pull a glass or pitcher of water from the pressure tank quite quickly, and it slowly starts refilling. I never have to wait for water from my tank system, unless I fill a couple of gallon jugs.

Filters are much much much cheaper on the under the sink tank systems. Another commenter said these filters are $90! I replace stage one a lot more often for only a couple of bucks per change, and the rest of the filters last a lot longer. Entire replacement sets might be $30, and the TDS are single digits.

I'd vote for the under the sink system with a tank, every day, at this price. I went with a "nuaqua" system with an extra stage to re-mineralize the water. Not in city water? I'd recommend an extra UV stage, too.

Just my two cents.

Can you install it yourself?
Yes, of course! Drill into the waste pipe and you may also have to drill a hole in the counter if you don't have a spare hole at the top of the sink counter. Very easy.

Sorry for my naive question. Is this only for drinking water? If so, isn't the water dispenser on the refrigerator enough? I'd like to install this device on kitchen sink to get purified water for cooking, but this one doesn't seem to have a spray head, so not a good idea?
You can connect both

I don't understand how this doesn't require a tank. I need to learn about these on-demand systems.
Tank fill up the reserve ( tank) and you are drinking water from tank.

These on demand system use pump. So they increase filter speed.

Therefore you don't need a pump.

I have 600 series. Have been using more than 2 years ( filter has been changed)

Ppm is less than 20. My tap water is 100+

I added mineral filter for taste

This is a great deal. I have used it for last 2 years. Working out great. Only thing is the first glass of water is a little bit hard... So I usually fill a water container when I turn it on and it's really good that way. I have replaced the cartridges a couple of times now and everything is easy. I put an extra pipe for the wastewater to my garden so that I don't waste the waste water.
Awesome idea for the waste water!

I have this system and it's a super solid system. 1 filter lasts 12 months the other is 24 months. I have no complaints and it fairly easy install.

First 20sec the TDS is over 100. After that it is around 50ish. The tank type is much lower, but this is faster if you need a lot at once.
i have a tank type and tds usually settles to teens or even single digit with 5 stage filters but i am starting to be concerned of the ratio of water waste. Does this really need electricity or just for app notifications? electricity is unreliable in our area. Can I use a $30 ups and will it last at least a few hours?

I bought this 3 years ago and I absolutely love it. Yeah the water doesn't come out as fast as the RO units with tanks. But I don't really care, it takes up so much less space. Changing the filters is a breeze and super easy. The filters are expensive, but one you only change every two years and the other less expensive one you chance once a year. Took my water in SoCal from 400 ppm to 12 ppm

Flouride isn't always a contaminant, it's purposely introduced into the water to help the population with dental health. At least in the US for about 3/4 of the country.
Except it only needs to touch the enamel of the tooth, and there are many different forms of fluoride. You can bark all day about how the PPM is tested and safe for consumption, but I do not see how adding a poison that can cross the blood-brain barrier is worth the trade off having nice teeth, esp. considering how bad it is for critical thinking and memory.

Sugar + Fluoride + PFAS == population stupid.

Not trying to offend anyone, just my PSA for the month. Happy drinking!

Are there alternative water RO filters that don't have microplastics?

I have one. I have not had the water tested, but it tastes good and is probably filtered as advertised. Make sure to get a remineralization stage. Water drop sells one.
It wastes the same amount of water as it outputs. It vibrates and makes a noticeable hum only while dispensing water.

It was a good purchase, but if you have room and budget for the higher end model, I'd recommend that instead.

It's enough of a contaminant to cause over 10% of people to end up with visible tooth damage from fluorosis, due to excessive fluoride. The EPA quietly reduced the recommended amount of fluoride in drinking water by over 40% in 2011, because fluorosis is so common.

Most of the strong evidence for fluoridation dates to the 1950s, before toothpaste and mouthwash were commonly fluoridated, and before fluoride treatments existed. Further, studies in Europe have shown no correlation between discontinuing water fluoridation and increased cavities -- and very little benefit to adults with permanent teeth. (In fact, it correlates with a small decrease in cavities.) The EU itself says:

"No obvious advantage appears in favour of water fluoridation compared with topical prevention. The effect of continued systemic exposure of fluoride from whatever source is questionable once the permanent teeth have erupted."
https://ec.europa.eu/health/scien...-3/5.htm#0

It is likely that water fluoridation is mostly redundant now that toothpaste and mouthwash are commonly fluoridated, and dental care for children is more common. Further, as we've found, fluoridating the water supply is risky because you can't control how much water people drink.

In conclusion, anyone who can afford a reverse osmosis water filter can also afford fluoridated toothpaste and a couple trips to the dentist for their kids. This gains the same benefits, without the risk of visible fluorosis...
...or any other potential hazards of ingesting what is, after all, a waste product of phosphate fertilizer manufacture, and thus a suspiciously convenient method of disposal of what is legally considered a hazardous substance and a workplace hazard! https://nj.gov/health/eoh/rtkweb/...s/1701.pdf
It's funny, I read your European citation and it said nothing like what you asserted. The citation was very clear about the benefits of fluoride in drinking water.

anecdote: my friend from Russia has terrible teeth, crowns, tons of cavities. same for their family. all attributed to lack of fluoride in drinking water.

I'm not sure why you are going off misrepresenting fluoride.

But, what do I know, we live in an age where the lay person is more trusted than experts like dentists, scientists.

You lose all credibility with fear mongering statements like arbitrarily calling it poison, and using broadly marketed fear terms like PFAS which is a gross statement for anything that is highly stable and non reactive.

You can bark all day about how you are smarter than science....

PSA don't get on the internet. A lot of people think electric fields cause cancer. You likely fit the at risk demographic. Also don't smell flowers, that scent is a VOC and VOCs are broadly categorized as evil.
