Why would Acer install an 18 inch, QHD+, 250 hz, 1000-nit mini-led in this thing if people didn't actually care about gaming using the built-in screen?

There's nothing cramped about the keyboard on this 18" laptop, and you can easily use a mouse or gamepad instead of the touchpad.

An 18" screen from 22" away is the same field of view as sitting just 5.5' away from a 55" TV.

Beast of a computer but it always makes me laugh when they only throw one terabyte in there instead of two terabytes at least for a price point like this like you really going to skimp on that one aspect and honestly I'd expect 64 GB for this price of RAM but whatever

It checks all my boxes, but I can't pull the trigger at this price with new CPUs and GPUs around the corner.

Serious question, do people buy gaming laptops just to hook them up to monitors? I can't imagine appreciating the highest-end games on a laptop screen with its cramped keyboard and touchpad.

Around the corner? It's going to be at least Feb or Mar before they might be on the market.

I own the much much cheaper 1080p version of this with the 4060 card. I bought it mainly cos I work from home and wanted to play Elden Ring DLC while "working" in the office.

Even with my cheaper model, the build quality is top notch. The trackpaid has a glass bottom so feels very solid. I've never used a mouse/keyboard on it to date after ownning it for 4 months. I use a wired xbox controller and I can play MW/COD/Elden Ring/Skyrim at 1080p at maxed out settings. Keyboard doesnt have any flex. And decent audio as well. I bought mine as a "open box" sale at Acer website earlier this year for $700 and ZERO complaints. It also serves as a "gaming rig away from home" .. I was in Bali for 13 days last week and took this with me. The added weight/size didnt concern me. I was able to knock out some Elden Ring bosses during a monsoon storm.

I do both. I work remotely but travel a fair bit and I have monitors at various offices to hook to but like having a decent display when that's not available. I'm also a game developer so my use case probably isn't that common but nonetheless..

Yes, it'll be a little longer for the GPU update in mobile, but leaks say AMD is launching Zen 5 end of this month and Intel 15th Gen in December (If not sooner). These are bringing some good updates in the chipsets. Rumors are desktop 5000 series from nVidia is on the way late this year as well and mobile won't be too far behind.

That all said, even if you ignore GPUs next year, they will certainly release new mobile models with current gen 4000 series GPUs with Zen5/15th gen CPUs which should be a good boost since currently the GPUs are mostly CPU bound these days.

My statement stands. At this price it's too high an ask with the new mobile platforms on the way. If this was hitting $2200 at the most post tax, then yeah... A good buy, but at $2600+. Just no. Back to school sales and black friday/cyber Monday are not too long a wait at this point.

If you need the performance now, then sure.. Get it. It is a sale, but they can do better. Especially with the 4080 version being on sale and $400 less currently.
