Amazon should be ashamed of themselves. This is like regular price, nothing special about it. They used to do better deals around Prime Day. What a bust.
wish they sold remote for 5 to 10 bucks
Here are some use case scenarios for a streaming device.

The Hisense h9g used faulty memory that caused the main board to fail if too many writes occured. The best way to prevent this was to disable the internet, not use on board apps and use a streaming device.

For the Samsung s90b, the company apparently sent out firmware updates that lowered the brightness of the TV. So to prevent an update for those who did not receive it, you would keep the TV off the internet, unable to use onboard apps, so you need a third party device.

I have an s90c that I do not want nerfed, so I use a fire stick on it and others on avs forums do the same with other streaming devices. I also have 2 h9gs that I keep off the internet.

I use a streaming device on my ust projector, the on board apps are laggy compared to a streaming device.

Another use case is that Samsung store does not have a larger app library compared to Google or the TV is not able to run certain apps.

I use an onn streaming box on one of my TV's that has Google TV on it. I can run emulators up to Dreamcast with the onn box, my TV is not able to do that.

I bought the 4K max stick back in April for same price. Not sure why this is a deal. I will says it is incredibly faster than the past sticks I've had including the fireTV box

The Max is a very nice piece of hardware, especially if you're using it with a home theater (Atmos, Atmos/3D music).

However, the remote it ships with is a creaky, flimsy, piece of crap. It's much worse than any previous gen remote. I ended up buying the $35 Alexa remote to pair with it and it's a huge improvement, but hate that I felt the need to replace original after only a few months.

Remotes are a little different too.

If you have a strong Wi-Fi signal then you probably won't notice lack of Ethernet much. I always prefer to wire everything I can and keep the Wi-Fi traffic to a minimum.

UPDATE: They do sell an accessory for $15 that let's you use Ethernet to connect a Fire TV Stick:

I have the max and hate it at least I don't like it with plex. I have a few firesticks and cubes throughout my house and this is the first time I've had stuttering issues. The max makes plex think it is an outside connection, can't seem to figure out how to fix it. If I disable remote viewing on plex (watching shows outside of the network) it seems to work fine, but for whatever strange reason other than that constant stuttering of and network drops. I believe I have issues with other apps as well, but have long given up on it and use it for my exercise area where I'm streaming hulu usually. Maybe I got a dud, but even factory resetting, that did not work. I hate the max, which is sad, because I really wanted the extra memory. I also hate the cubes (so far each generation has the same issue, I have two generations of cubes and I hate them both), they work, but I find myself having to restart them at least daily to get them to work correctly.

I been using a few of the 4k max since it was released a year ago. Only issue is, do not loose the original power cable when you hook up an Ethernet adaptor to it. It supplies 5.5 volts as all other supply 5 volts. This will put you in a boot loop, The fire stick will keep restarting over and over. I also have an older fire tv that must be over 10 years old. Never had a cube, are they any good? Might have to try that out next. Hoping there will be a better deal on prime day.

Sticks work ok, nothing blazing fast. But my Cube(previous Gen) keeps on a chugging.

Do any of these actually browse smoothly. Everytime I buy any of these eventually they all just drag and sporadically lock up.

That Ethernet adapter only supports fast (10/100) Ethernet. So WiFi may actually be faster.
In crowded wifi areas like mine, ethernet has an inherent advantage. I'd trade some bandwith for the dedicated non-sharing nature of hardwired ethernet.

I used to think all Amazon Fire Sticks were more or less the same, which is why I didn't upgrade for a while. However, once we started using the Fire Stick 4K Max, we immediately noticed significant improvements: movies look better with smoother playback, load times are much faster, and there's better connectivity with fewer buffering issues.

I have the opposite experience with fire stick and Plex. It works flawlessly, what I like the most about the stick vs Roku is that stick lets me bypass audio and run it at the original format, making my sound system sound very nice .

No one is really talking about the cube here...Would it be a good deal at $99 plus an extra 20% off trade-in? I have an old first gen fire stick laying around.

That's a huge upgrade and a great deal. The cube at BF was more than $100 and didn't allow for trade ins.
