All colors available now.

Tempted but really don't want to go back to having to use lightning cables again. USB-C version should be coming later this year (though rumored not to have any significant upgrades over this version)

Aren't these over 3 and a half years old at this point? Apple should have released an updated model by now.

Nice. You still get 10% back in total with any Amazon credit card. That takes care of tax and gets you an extra few percent off. Decided to add AppleCare Plus since I read they basically give you a new pair if anything goes wrong in the 2 year period.

Edit: 10% off looks like it's gone it was a limited time offer

Just buy a USB-C to lightning adapter that tethers to your USB-C charging cable(s)...it's not worth $150 to avoid charging with lightning lol. Especially with how infrequently you need to charge these...$5

We don't know all of the updates that will be on the new max. It's not really worth trying to save $150 on something this expensive and also that is around the corner and will continue having sales when the next iteration comes out. These headphones are nearing 4 years and worst case scenario you find these at a similar price when they are being cleared for new inventory.

Good point. Don't think almost a third off the price is anything to sneeze at though.

Normally I'd advocate for people buying older, good tech at discounted prices. I bought a M1 Pro because I thought it was a great value but I don't think $150 off the max is actually a great deal even though it's 27 percent off (not quite 1/3).

Partially because I expect this to be the normal sale price when the update drops but also because price tag is quite high even when compared to similar premium headphones. We don't know if the next max will msrp for the same price.

As great as these headphones are, they are still 3.5 years old and $400 is still a lot.

That's why I think $300-$350 is more of a reasonable price and they will continue to sell at $400 or less as we get closer to the next update

Has anyone tried the Sonos Aces? I am wondering about their audio quality. I've done pretty thorough research on everything else.

The iPad Air 5th Gen 64GB was routinely on sale for $450 like these are as rumors of an immanent refresh approached. They started to show up around $400 before the launch of the M2 update. I have never seen it go below $400. That's my prediction on these.

I had initially purchased the iPad Air 5th Gen for $400. It was not worth it for me to pay $600 for the new version. I did not realize there would be sales on the M2s right away, and for me the landscape camera, 128GB base model, and Apple Pencil Pro support made it worth the $140 extra I paid for it (got it on sale for $540).

All of that said, the landscape camera for teleconferencing was the main attraction. Otherwise, they're more or less the same device. That's my prediction for the new Maxes. I do agree with you though, they will be at the $400 sale price again and again if you don't need them right now.

I don't think you can really use ipads as an accurate comparison because they are two different types of products. I can point to the M1 Pro laptops and show how they are half price or more from msrp.

I think for most people as well, it's easier to justify $400 for a tablet, which has a multitude of functions, than simply a pair of headphones. I love my AirPods Pro and think they are worth it. I have a hard time doing the same with the max.

The AirPods Pro refresh was also on sale immediately and is regularly on sale.

Same with me. For a bit more I can get a multi function for either an iPad , an iPhone, a laptop, or spend a bit cheaper for a pair of headphones. $400 for the AirPod Max, I'm not the Rockefeller.

So if they drop to $350 in 4 months it's a buy from you?

If you plan to spend $350 in 4 months, then just buy them now at $400 and have 4 months more of enjoying them.

I get what you are saving, but also it doesn't entirely make sense. If you rather just wait for the new ones and pay that price (like $600), then that's fine too. However, these are high quality one of best on the market now, I don't think anyone would be disappointed and if they are, just resell them when the new ones come out.

For me, I think the XM4's are the better value pick if we are trying to save money.

Does the spatial audio feature work on Apple TV 4K? If it does, does it only work for movies from Apple steaming itself, or any app, like HBO Max, etc?
Yep. Any app.

I personally prefer Airpod Pro 2 myself but I can attest that in my use with HBO Max etc, Spatial Audio is fantastic with movies.

Hands down the best implementation I've ever heard of simulated surround. Love watching movies with my AirPod Pro 2. Recently finished Dune 1 & 2 and finally watched Mad Max.

I stand by this as a prediction of how these prices will move in the next six months. I don't think the new headphones will be that different if they even come out at the end of the year. Right now the speculation is no earlier than the end of this year, but possibly early next year.

If the second gen come out in September, will they be on sale for $500 down from $550 for the holidays, very likely.

There is also no guarantee these will come out this year. That is the earliest in the predicted range of late 2024, early 2025.

The rumored release dates for the most recent iPads kept getting pushed over and over again.

Right, so the only answer is to buy them now if these are the headphones you want. This is lowest price to date on new.

Can someone tell me whether the noise canceling is automatic/default when you turn these on? I don't like NC and with my Sony XM4s, I have to cycle through 2-3 settings when I turn them on to just reach "normal."
