Plus moto phones get custom roms. Even my ancient z3 play is on A14. The A series phones are so sluggish! Will be a nightmare with future android versions.

It's worth a half hour for me not to pay hundreds of dollars more for a flagship phone (that I would probably do most of that stuff to anyway)
Most of those tweaks were for long term battery life, which is important on any phone you plan on keeping for a few years.
Neither of these phones are my daily drivers as I still use my S22 Ultra 256GB for that, but even as a secondary "toy" device, the A54 was super annoying due to the stuttering.

Also, compared to my S22U, the Moto feels smoother. Not sure what they are doing, but the whole experience is so much better than the A54. I get it that you like your A54, and there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone has different perception when it comes to smoothness etc. Also, unlike me, not everyone has used both phones. All I have to say is that the Moto Stylus 2024 has really impressed me and gone much beyond what I expected in terms of the user experience, and the A54 disappointed me with its stutters and lag. The Moto has 8GB RAM, and I know that makes a difference.
Btw, I am a hardcore Samsung guy and have had Samsung phones since the TMobile Vibrant days. Had almost every version of the Note. So I am not basing the A54 just because I hate Samsung. In fact, I prefer the Samsung UI to the vanilla android experience. It's just that I am very sensitive to lag and stutters, and that is one area where the A54 really annoyed me. That's all.

The 2023 only has 6gb ram and an LCD, but it's still amazing how nice it is, how smooth the 120hz screen is and how well it holds up compared to my thousand dollar Samsung phones.
The main problem with the A54 isn't the Samsung software, it's the exynos chip. For whatever reason, that chip is super finicky and lags occasionally no matter what you do.
It's not bad, and I would happily use an A54 if I didn't have the stylus - but if I had to choose between the two I'd get a stylus 5g 2024. For high end phones that I plan to keep for 5 years or so I'd definitely choose Samsung over Motorola, no question.
But on phones in this category I'd probably choose the stylus if they were the same price.

- I'm not unlocked yet (service started 5/24) and have been using TBV service the whole time.
- Very happy with phone, but I'm a light user. I don't game or do other processor intensive activities. I only use 1-2gb data per month, since I'm mostly at home on Wi-Fi. I don't find it slow or laggy. faster than my old pixel 5a.
- Cellular service has been good. No issues.
- Tweaked out phone for performance and battery life, reducing performance, and it's still fast enough for me.
- You can get a second month of service cheaper if you buy a $25 plan from walmart.com. BUT don't buy until the last day or two of your initial plan, as it will cancel your remaining days (and give you a new 30). That plan also has only 1gb data, so you'll have to be data stingy for a month. You have been warned.
- If you search referral sites, you can get a code good for 5000 points, or a month of service. However, you won't get those points unless you are with TBV for 60 days. You could use them for a free third month of service.
