Sucks to hear that! Also in the Houston area and have a Generac, and it has always worked. I've only known of instances of these things failing when people didn't have them regularly serviced and maintained. It sucks to pay more, but having Generator Supercenter in Tomball monitoring it remotely is what I would recommend for people who aren't handy with it themselves.
How much does the remote monitor cost?

I have this unit. I paid closer to $7K to install for a couple of reasons:

1) They usually install close to you e-meter and your fuse box panels. That put the gas line 100'+ away on the other side of the house. So that was $2,000 to move.
2) Of the $5,000 to install, over $1,000 was the re-wiring of 2 - 200amp boxes as we have a pool and 400 amps of service.
3) This also comes with Wi-Fi/bluetooth (I believe) so I get alerts when it comes on from a power outage.
4) Ours runs for 2 minutes every Friday at 2:30 to keep the system running properly.

Hope that helps.

Don't forget to factor in how much these cost in nat gas to run. We had a storm here last year and heard people ended up paying about $1000/week to run

Been on the fence for a long time to get one of those tri fuel generators. May be super basic, but how do you ensure the rain water isn't damaging it, unless you have like a well ventilated shed or something. But I'd be curious to know cause I am sure lugging that out is probably gonna be a challenge too.
Look up Gentent.

You do realize that this runs on natural gas and not Gasoline right?
Some generacs run off propane tanks that have to be filled by a truck

I don't trust Generac after having several neighbors with their Generacs failing during this hurricane Beryl outage in Houston. The one older lady behind even me had it serviced and working just before the storm, afterwards it just clicks on and off. People can't get Generac on the phone when they need it most.
Especially when Honda and Briggs and Stratton both make home generators.

Wow these are expensive! If only there was some way to spread the cost around. Like maybe we could have one big generator and connect all the houses to it. And then it could have a whole team of experts to keep it running.

Family installed a Generac home system in 2019. They have a service agreement that costs them around $400/year. It runs several times a year for outages and also runs 5 times a month for 10-15 min. When the power went out for Beryl, it came on, then died. It took 3-4 days before the retailers tech could come out. The sparkplug was damaged, and it had thrown a rod. They had a 10 year warranty instead of the 5 year. Tech says Generac will fight the engine replacement, but the sparkplug damage makes it pretty obvious that the engine is toast. We run a 20 year old Briggs and Stratton. Change the oil, spark plug, and use ethanol free fuel or Stabil and a standard unit will last many years. I have an appointment to have an interlock and 40-50 amp plug installed outside of my brick garage where we can plug it in and run everything except my AC. Cost $550. Run a window or portable AC unit to keep 1 room comfortable for a few days until power is restored.

Most anything that runs on Natural gas can run on propane with a basic conversion. Typically orifices and regulator swaps.

Neither of those go bad either. Literally ever. So they were definitely referencing gasoline, which does go bad.

That seems a bit high. Just by keeping sump pumps running or food in a fridge from going bad it would be worth it at that price anyway. Probably worth it for AC in certain parts of the country/world also. Or if you're WFH. Otherwise I don't see much value in it

$5,500 from costco for the Honeywell 22kw model. You can get Generac installed through Costco- price of generator is the same but install is another $5-$8k
