I have this watch, and it's a beast of a watch without the weight of a Fenix. The main reason for me choosing this over the Forerunner 255 (the 265 wasn't out at the time) was for golf and better battery life. I can still go a full week (sometimes a week and a half) without charging it, even though I use it nearly every evening for a 3+ mile dog walk and a handful of spin classes (with a chest strap HR monitor) throughout the week.

The only issue I had wasn't specific to this model but was a general Garmin charging port issue. It has a recessed charging port, so any dirt or sweat can get in there. Long story short, I was doing a bunch of landscaping work over the summer, and dirt got into it. When I kept shoving the charger cable in, a connector got damaged. It wasn't a big deal—I contacted Garmin, and they gave me two options: either send them the broken unit, and they would send a replacement, or put down a $150 deposit and have them ship a replacement immediately. I chose the latter, sent in the broken unit, and got the $150 refunded.
This is an incredible deal. This watch is almost exactly the same as their latest model, the 965 which goes for $600. The only significant difference is the AMOLED screen on the 965. If you're looking for a running watch, this is one to jump on.

Fun fact. the Lte version of this watch is the only non satelite (non Inreach) communication device that can initiate SAR.
Still waiting for LTE version on slickdeal.

Edit. Been corrected. 945 has this feature, 955 and 965 do not.

I have Fenix 6s sapphire watch. Is this one a big upgrade or not worth it? I am mostly interested in battery life. I only get 5 days out of my watch with most of stuff turned off

I was really hoping the 255 would go on sale today for $200, the differences between the 255 and 955 are relatively minor.
This is still a really good deal though if you really want the 955 though

Great deal. If you want the ultimate in battery life and daytime visibility this is actually better than the 965.

I actually bought the 955 over the 965 a few days ago because the AMOLED screen isn't for me. I used a Fitbit versa 4 with AMOLED for a week and it was too bright at night to take a peak at the time while in bed. Plus I was having battery anxiety with always on display. I had the 935 before and loved it, so I chose 955 over 965. Hope this helps

There is no LTE version of this watch. The last LTE enabled watch was the Forerunner 945.

The 955 though is a phenomenal watch. I've had the solar version since it was released - the battery life is unbeatable. (The solar makes a negligible impact - the watch is just super efficient.)

copped the FR 255 for the same reason. don't care for AMOLED and want AOD + longer battery life

Is this worth buying if I am mostly running on the treadmill? I already have a Fitbit Alta HR. Thanks in advance.

This would be pricey to buy just as a treadmill watch. A lot of Garmin's best features are related to their maps and GPS.

the 255 music is $220
Is this a good price? I would prefer the one w/o music.

Help, does this play music. Will it download and record Podcasts/audiobooks/Music playlists or do I need to provide cellular connection?
