Got the Skil table saw fairly recently and it's pretty awesome. Can I expect the same for this miter? Can it handle thicker pieces? (4x4 +)

Yes it will cut 4x4 in one pass.

At 90 degrees, it will not cut a 4x4 on a miter, you need a 12" saw to do that.

SKIL had a bad rep years ago but they were purchased by Chervon, a Chinese company that also owns FLEX and EGO, and got a refreshed tools lineup that is actually quite good for the price. EGO and FLEX are both legit high end home owner tool lines, so they know what they are doing when it comes to making tools.

Have this saw and the Skil table saw. Both punch above their price point, and at $189, this is an absolute no brainer for a homeowner.

That's a tough call. Both of these are a great deal. That being said, I have a miter saw stand and hardly use it. For larger pieces of wood I'd rather use the saw on the floor so I can prop the ends of the boards to keep them flat.
