TLDR: If you are considering ANC Premium headphones, be open minded and consider XM5s. But they do lack Dolby Atmos if you like watching movies on Apple TV or listening to music through Apple Music. But XM5s are super light, cross platform compatible and can maintain two active connections the same time. And they are not locked to any ecosystem. It comes with a superior USB-C charging, and 3.5MM headphone jack (very usefull on long international flights).

I'm sorry about that, but I just want to be clear that your position- that Apple, in FOUR years, would only change the connector to USB C despite the rampant issues with this V1 device (such as not being able to effectively control when its on or off, or the incredibly horrible case, or the weight).
This kind of thought pattern is common but I just want to let you know that you're doing it because I think it probably makes sense to be a lot more honest than you're being right now.
And maybe it would be good to go over the ways in which you stack your own biases as truths and disregard everything that doesn't match your biases in the worst possible light.
You're entitled to believe whatever make believe you prefer, but we are, as far as anyone can tell, a handful of months (between 2 and 6 months, lets say) from a device that has had, again, FOUR years to mature.
But since you're so blind to your own biases you are left defending a ludicrous position (that the AirPods will be upgraded besides "maybe the case" and USB C) and it's just weird dude. Sorry but it just is.
At the end of the day, this is a decent set of headphones. $350, given the construction and brand pedigree, makes enough sense.
I know when these release you're just going to tie yourself in knots to explain why the upgrades don't matter, so it's barely worth having this discussion, I just wanted to let you know what you're doing with your own style of false argumentation because it's leading you to severe biases in your entire thought process.
Everyone is entitled to their purchase of choice and for people who legitimately don't CARE what the new Max headphones will bring, more power to you! But for people who want to pay a little more and get the new design (Apple always changes the design so people feel like they need the new one, this is literally marketing 101) and other possible benefits like lossless audio, improved drivers and mics, USB C, finally a way to turn the dang things off (lol), and a redesign of that case that literally everyone and their mother thinks is the worst designed case possibly in the history of cases.
It's a V1 apple product and one of the most controversial apple products of all time due to its extremely odd choices concerning the case, power management, weight, etc etc
It's going to get numerous positive changes and I'm looking forward to it. Also, once the new one comes out, these will plummet into the ground price-wise like every apple product that gets a new release. Cheers.
I don't know how you managed to convince yourself that there's no way this product could be markedly improved in 4 actual real life years of updates on a fairly poorly received V1 product but… try to realize what an odd position that is, and what it's causing you to believe and defend. Unfortunately it's probably too late, but I hope you surprise us.

I get what you're saying, I saw people defending buying the Tesla model 3 before the redesign came out and that was pure copium and everyone could tell. But for a vanity product like this, I genuinely think this is the better buy. And unfortunately as an Apple fanboy innovation has seemed to slow down, I get it technology has advanced so much there's not that much more they can do, but Apple now is just making money shipping out products with marginal upgrades.

I do think there are potential beneficial changes other than the USB C port, and I hope the current leaks are wrong and Apple makes them. I just don't think you know what you're talking about and don't like your passing along your hopes and dreams for the product as credible information to those who might pass on a reasonable price for some excellent headphones. I am in no way acting in bad faith.

If we take a look at HomePod. The second generation after many years is pretty much the same device because they were already excellent to begin and still are.
The idea that Apple products will crater in price is dumb. Maybe it might hit $300 but this is pretty much as low as it will get and is a significant discount.
My concern of buying one now is that they will do like the HomePod and the new AirPod max will be cheaper on release since I think $200 difference is significant but a $100-$150 is worth just getting the newest one even with minor upgrades.
Thank you so much for waiting on the line. I was able to check here the deal at the Walmart, and I know that it is important for you to get the discount on it. However, the item at the Walmart is part of the flash deal, which means a discounted limited time deal only at the Walmart. And based on the policy that we have here in Best Buy, we do not cover other discount membership of our competitors, since it's beyond our policy.
