I just got a 16" chainsaw with a 4 ah battery for $210. If you need one now, this isn't bad, but deals are around if you need/want other tools.
Thanks. Thought about it but I already have a chainsaw so I rather have a bigger battery for less. But almost pulled the trigger. My 5Ah is beat.

Too bad you can't get paid for recycling these things. Lots of value in the materials.

It gets confusing just using Ah ratings. Since they're around 3x the voltage of a typical tool battery, they contain 3x the power for the same Ah rating. If you consider the cost of three 5Ah battery packs for a tool, it gets more reasonable. This is on parr with a $60 tool battery, which is generic territory.

Because things aren't priced at a reasonable % above what they cost to produce. A kWh of batteries costs what, $100-$150 these days? 56v * 5Ah is roughly .28kWh or $28-$42 of battery plus a BMS and some plastic/rubber packaging and some markup and an average company would be lucky to get $100 for these! The generic batteries seem to be a more reasonable price point, not sure why people are worried how they would impact the tool warranty as I doubt they have some way to tell you used them but you guys do you, however I've also read mixed reviews on them and their longevity. Regardless the G2-G3 Ego batteries don't seem to hold up as long as the G1's did. Anecdotally I've had a few G1's last 5+ years while a G2 battery died less than 2 years but I don't own 10,000 of them so for all I know I was both lucky and unlucky.

As someone who would burn through 2 stroke engines because I didn't use them all year or was willing to spend to get brands that would last for 5-10 years (or because someone didn't fill from the mixed fuel container!!!!!) a new battery for my collection of Ego products isn't that bad at this price point, and they know that.... Doesn't mean we're not all getting taken for a ride but they definitely factor in the whole "Oh, your old rarely used gas powered tool didn't last too long, now did it" in to their pricing...

This said, there have been a lot of recent sales where you could get a tool + battery + charger and sell all but the battery and cover a good chunk of your purchase price. I'm in the market for a tool only string trimer so if someone wants to go that route let me know as my probably 9-11 yr old string trimmer is having issues!

Thanks for posting this deal but I bought the chainsaw w/ the 4A battery for $210. I do not have much use for the chainsaw but on my mind I was buying a 4A battery for $210 and sometimes the blower w/ the 4A also goes for $180. I will wait for a better deal tool plus battery and then sell the tool (I already have all the tools that I need).

Even if you don't use it, be sure to put this on the charger once a month. They discharge slowly while not in use and can die if they bottom out on charge

I've got 7.5Ah batteries from 2018 still running like new (as far as I can tell). Then a 5.0ah and a 2.5ah from probably 2019 or 2020.

Lithium batteries don't like to be stored fully charged or full discharged. Maximize their usable life by storing them at ~50% SoC.

40% to 80% is the range I remember hearing. I've had a 5 and a 2 for about seven years from Ego, neither are showing any signs of losing charge, I use it all summer long for an Ego mower, weedwhacker, and blower. I'm pretty impressed. I kind of wonder if they make them as good now as they did when I got them — every business seems to be cutting corners these days. I store mine inside in the winter, and I never let them get hot in the sun.

Thanks. This and the previous explanation help. My tool junkie wants a blower. Hopefully a combo pack will come up for the holidays.

All of the reviews are from Vine customers who received the product for free for a review. I used to do the reviews for free products. I would avoid mostly vine reviewed products. Most, like me, used the product for like 2 weeks and then wrote a 4-5 star review and never really used the product again.

Because they have to pay for the ridiculous plastic-housing design changes.

I probably should've ordered one. mine has been acting up recently, not charging and flashing red sometimes. 2020 model. Waiting on the next good deal I guess.

mine is acting up after a few years.. It was my backup for an hour mow... acted like it went dead in just a few passes and glad my 2.5A finished. However it charged right up in a few minutes, like nothing happened. Just a glitch I hope.
