Does it support Linksys Velop Mesh technology?
No. This model does not support Linksys Mesh; it is a standalone router only.

Can I use the Linksys app with the Linksys MX4300 (LN1301)?
No. This router does not support Linksys cloud services; therefore, the Linksys app is not supported.
Looks like someone was able to get OpenWRT [openwrt.org] working on this router model.
Ok, so I got mine and fiddled with it. First, this is a very easy router to unbrick so go ahead and fiddle with the firmware all you want. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful in installing the linksys mx4200v1 firmware as well as installing openwrt for mx4200v1. On openwrt the light turned purple but I couldn't ssh into the router. I guess it can't be hacked into a mesh. Went ahead and purchased the slickdeal mx8000 refurbished that was just posted and will be returning these. Good luck to all and please do post on any different outcomes. Obviously $25 a node for a 4.2gbps Wi-Fi 6 mesh would be a spectacular bargain.

Does it matter if it only has 2.4 ghz freq, and no 5ghz (to use as main router) . I always assumed 5ghz supported faster speeds.
This is a tri band router, so it supports 2.4 ghz and 5ghz (actually has 2 x 5 ghz bands).

What is strange is that it's a tri band that doesn't support native mesh network. Isn't the whole point of the 2nd 5ghz band is for mesh communication in most tri band routers?

That's exactly why everyone is so curious to see what happens when it's flashed

5ghz supports faster but shorter distance
2.4ghz supports distance but "slower".

Does anyone know if the USB port can be used to set up a NAS (either the stock firmware or OpenWrt)?

I've been using a Netgear R6700 for a few years now, and I use its "RedaySHARE" feature for smb/ftp duties.

Official answer is NO.

What is the USB port for? The USB 3.0 port is reserved for future use.

Did you get it working ??
I finally got it opened today. So I flashed v2 thinking it was v2 until I looked at the layout after the flash of the actual board and is 100% identical to v1. Currently setting up serial connection to flash v1.
For anyone who got this device, use v1 squash-upgrade for initial flash.

I will note that the openwrt page specifically says that 160mhz, for what I believe is this model v1 according to the images of the board I compared to mine and the openwrt page, is not supported. https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/m...nd_v2#info fyi to everyone.

You should be able get mesh connectivity if it's identical to mx4200v1. That's what we're all curious about! Also, can't we flash the linksys 4200v1 firmware if it's the same hardware?

would you please try flashing official MX4200 v1 firmware?

I saw some guys are able to de-brand their MX4200-ISP to retail MX4200
(https://www.ispreview.co.uk/talk/...-v1.39281/)

Wonder same technique would work on this MX4300

You really shouldn't use the MX4200 firmware. Linksys stopped updating it 2 years ago. So no security updates.

Interesting. The commit message [openwrt.org] for that commit that added OpenWRT support says that it can do 2x2 160MHz. That would be better if you have a strong signal and clean specturm and a 2x2 160Mhz client. Otherwise, 4x4 80MHz probably works better.

Disagree

MX4200 Support Date still has a few years to be ended

Regardless of whether it's end of support, the latest firmware version available for the mx4200 is from September 2022.

I have a mx5300. The stock firmware is pretty limited and tries to force you to make an account and use the app which is not great from a privacy standpoint.
