Does it support Linksys Velop Mesh technology?
No. This model does not support Linksys Mesh; it is a standalone router only.

Can I use the Linksys app with the Linksys MX4300 (LN1301)?
No. This router does not support Linksys cloud services; therefore, the Linksys app is not supported.
Looks like someone was able to get OpenWRT [openwrt.org] working on this router model.
Ok, so I got mine and fiddled with it. First, this is a very easy router to unbrick so go ahead and fiddle with the firmware all you want. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful in installing the linksys mx4200v1 firmware as well as installing openwrt for mx4200v1. On openwrt the light turned purple but I couldn't ssh into the router. I guess it can't be hacked into a mesh. Went ahead and purchased the slickdeal mx8000 refurbished that was just posted and will be returning these. Good luck to all and please do post on any different outcomes. Obviously $25 a node for a 4.2gbps Wi-Fi 6 mesh would be a spectacular bargain.

I finally got it opened today. So I flashed v2 thinking it was v2 until I looked at the layout after the flash of the actual board and is 100% identical to v1. Currently setting up serial connection to flash v1.
For anyone who got this device, use v1 squash-upgrade for initial flash.
This should be a dual partition device like the other MX series routers. If it fails to boot there times it'll switch to the other partition which still should be the stock fw.
Or if you've got a serial console you can use that to choose the partition to boot.

This post and the following one on the Opener forums say it should at least boot and the flash layout seems to be different. https://forum.openwrt.org/t/openw.../86477/816

There is no official OpenWRT support for this device per it's model name, but it appears to be identical to the MX4200, which is recently supported. I suspect this needs minimal changes to be supported, if it doesn't work already.

You can also buy on Walmart (see above) and Amazon directly

https://www.amazon.com/Linksys-LN...0D742T4LW/ [amazon.com]

Here's the OpenWRT thread

https://forum.openwrt.org/t/openw...200/86477/ [openwrt.org]

This seems like a good OpenWRT device.

Note that I DO NOT recommend casual normies buy this unless they plan on using OpenWRT. This device is being dumped by Linksys because it's End of Life/End of Support.
There is a support for MX5 AX5300 model as well! https://openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/li...sys_mx5300

How is this compared to the Tmobile Cellspot router?

Please keep us updated in regards to being able to use OpenWRT.

Has anyone been able to get it to work yet? I see there is speculation about it working, but no actual confirmation.

(Also, I never realized Woot shipping was so slow. I never shopped there often so I just assumed it'd be the same as Amazon. Does anyone actually have theirs and has been able to tinker with it?)

Does it really matter that this router isn't supported anymore? I still have an AC router from years ago and I haven't gotten hacked or issues with reception.

would you please try flashing official MX4200 v1 firmware?

https://store.linksys.com/support...eNum=48440

I saw some guys are able to de-brand their MX4200-ISP to retail MX4200
(https://www.ispreview.co.uk/talk/...-v1.39281/)

Wonder same technique would work on this MX4300
I have three of these and bought more because they are cheap

I would like to know if you can flash official MX4200 v1 firmware to it

I have the very old Tmobile ASUS AC1900 with custom firmware that is very reliable (only need to reboot less than 3 times a year). Is this considered an upgrade?

With no support for Velop Mesh, this model is a waste. The only people that could possibly benefit from this are people living in an 1-2 bedroom apartment and thats it with how short range some of these velops have been with their wifi.

Also I no longer pull the trigger and ask questions later when it comes to WOOT, since you have to pay return shipping even through amazon for their products...

I have the same question, except I still run standard T-mobile firmware (don't judge me LOL). Pretty much all my reboot was due to power outage.

Guess who owns Linksys? Cisco. Yikes. Try again. LOL!
Their vulnerabilities exist in Linksys' products.
Cisco sold off Linksys years ago!!!

That's coming up on EOL soon. If you've got Merlin on it, no more updates beyond this year.

Spend a little more and get a good router. Ex ASUS. They easily last 5 year or more. I personally have the ASUS xt8 for 3 years.

You get good range/service from the start.

It's not worth dealing with a router that has problems/weak just to save $200.

Many of us spend $500+ on internet service per year, why cheap out on the device that sends out weak signal/service. Over 5 year, you will be spending 2.5k+ on service.

Think of your service as a fire hydrant(internet service). You don't want to cheap out and buy a gardening hose and attach to it.

Nope.
FYI, openwrt mesh via 802.11r is very good. You could definitely buy three of these for a mesh setup if you're planning on installing openwr

edit: reading the post right before this, YMMV as it's obviously contingent on getting openwrt installed Frown

I will note that the openwrt page specifically says that 160mhz, for what I believe is this model v1 according to the images of the board I compared to mine and the openwrt page, is not supported. https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/m...nd_v2#info fyi to everyone.
Were you able to install OpenWRT and Wireguard on it?
