The heck? If you get something half of 2x... it's the same price.

I don't think this is a stellar deal... I think SD (and comments) have increasingly gone downhill over the years

I don't think this is a good price at all. I flew Singapore Air for 600 RT maybe 2 years ago. 1400 seems too much

Not seeing it for that price. I'm getting $1785 from LAX in November 12 based on your date
I was quoted $1410 for Jan 15-30. I won't be booking it just yet but this was great to know.

Does anybody have any idea why a round trip from Tokyo to Dallas is typically 700 bucks, but a round trip from Dallas to Tokyo is typically 1700 (all on American airlines)? It's literally the same flights, but in different orders. Can somebody give me insight on this?

They sure do fly into HND. BTW, my flight from EWR to SIN happens to be the second longest flight in the world.

Saw this price yesterday morning. It is lower by $80 than the cheapest I've seen on AA lately. I think it's a great deal for what it is.

FYI, JAL to NRT on 787s is 2-4-2 configuration with much more leg room and wider seats in regular economy than american carriers. It's sometimes on sale for 8xx. Something to consider if you don't want a third party.
Yea the JAL economy product has as much leg room and as big of a screen as US Domestic premium economy. I've never flown a AA product overseas but I wouldn't hold my breath

Or if you have the money you can pay to not "just deal" with it. To each their own.

If you haven't fly on in two years, you will be shocked. Prices have gone up, but you really have to look for deals..
I've been watching for similar prices to Tokyo out of Vancouver, British Columbia, and SeaTac Seattle . And they've been close to this price if not a little bit less.

I got lucky from Seattle to Hong Kong. It's an Air Canada puddle jumper to Vancouver and then a direct flight from Vancouver to Hong Kong and only three hour layover. This was in the middle of September and I was able to grab it for $600 a ticket.

International flight service is almost always as good as domestic, and typically better.

In this case, they use the same seats they use in domestic first class in narrow body jets, with the addition of a large IFE screen and a foot rest.

This route is typically served by 787-8s. The seat width is 18.5" and the pitch is 38".

Economy seat width is variable, but can be as low as 16.2".

Asian airlines are generally much more generous with seat space, and JAL is widely considered to be the best, at least for space. Their long haul economy seats are comparable to these in width, though they only offer 33.5" of pitch. You'll be able to recline and stretch out more on the AA premium product.

There are some JAL flights for $839 r/t in August, but typically pricing is more like $980-$1,030.

JAL also allows 2 bags for free in standard economy, so this is $380-580 more for an extra 5 inches of seat pitch and a higher class of service in the air.

IMO, JAL economy is the better deal, but they're similar.

As someone who has flown to Japan many, many times (also lived there for nearly a decade) and have experienced sitting in regular economy, premium economy, and business class for many different airlines, I personally wouldn't book premium economy on a non-Japanese/Asian airline. When it comes to airlines operated by American companies, it's either economy or business. I find you don't get much value with a premium economy seat, unless they've changed things significantly in recent years. And from the description of this deal, it doesn't look like things have changed. You're paying almost double for what, a slightly larger seat with more recline?

Economy on a Japanese airline is also better than economy on a non-Japanese airline. The service is waaaaaaaay better. My Japanese colleagues who came over on United complained of an extremely cold cabin and the attendants constantly bumping into their seats with their carts and/or bodies. I fly United if they're significantly cheaper than ANA, but otherwise it's generally ANA for me.

I've looked up Zip Air but every time I do, their prices are not much cheaper than a regular airline once you add in meals and checked luggage, and sometimes they're more expensive. Like I just paid $986 for an upcoming trip from LAX to HND on ANA. For the same dates flying into NRT (HND is much more convenient) on Zip Air, it's like $50 more expensive once you add in the meal and one checked luggage (ANA gives you two checked luggage and meals standard). Plus I have Star Alliance Gold status through my ANA Super Flyers credit card so that's free lounge access. If you can get Zip Air's lie-flat seats then maybe it's a really good value, but otherwise, I would check with traditional airlines to confirm the price difference before booking with them.
