Thanks! Can you pull up on this bar? I know you couldn't on the Wolfgang which is why I passed on it. (I haven't played a guitar with a floyd in so many years but I figure if I'm going to get one I'm going to want to turn that bar backwards and Vai all the notes!)
No you can't pull-up on the bar on these. The body isn't routed to do that. Otherwise these are great guitars. no problem for small hands either. This is regular C neck. Not chunky at all. I bought the purple one last year and it cost close to double at the time. If you can live with this color I would not hesitate to buy it. Quality MIM EVH.

Thanks! Are any of the guitars from the EVH line routed to pull up on the bar?

EVh himself didn't use floating ones. I'm not aware of any floating EVh.

You can have the Floyd adjusted to float by a guitar tech, or watch a YT video. The dive only setting is not permanent.

A guitar doesn't need a dedicated routing to be able to pull up. Older Charvels and all Strats have a flat body and they float from the factory. The EVH models are decked but can be made to float with an adjustment. I own a Wolfgang Standard with an OFR that uses a trem stop.

You would have to remove the D Tuna to float the EVH.

Thanks for all of the info! I would want to keep the D Tuna and be able to pull up on the bar, so unlike Sammy, I guess I can't have the best of both worlds (ba dum tss).

Lol. I think the D Tuna is a separate application from doing Steve Vai type tricks. I would just get two different guitars, especially at this price. You could afford an EVH and then get an Ibanez Jem Jr and get a trem stabilizer and it will allow you to go up and down and keep your tuning stability with unison bends. It's hard for one guitar to do all of these things.

I have a trem stabilizer in my Charvel and it feels like a float, but it has better stability and the string changes are easier. (Vai has two trem stabilizers in each of his guitars.)

Two different guitars?! I'm going to be lucky if I can sneak just one in here. If I had to pick, I'd probably prioritize the whammy madness over the D Tuna as I have enough guitars to chugga chugga on.

Thanks for the mentioning the trem stabilizer! I had forgotten about those and will keep it in mind whenever my Floyd dreams come true. Thanks for your thoughts!

No worries. The term stabilizer works way better than a stopper because there isn't as much "clunk" when the bar is done, plus you can pull up pretty easily. Get the one from Germany listed on Reverb. It's about $30 but works great.
