Even after spending $1300 if you still feel need to drop another 700 on an external amp, what's the point of getting this?
Because you want the feature set of this AVR and want more power than it provides

Yamaha dropped their dedicated pre/pro from their line up

Great price! I got this for $1,649.00 back in Dec '22, from Adorama, and love it. It was an upgrade of a RX-A3000 which I now use as an external amp for the RX-A6A. Configured 7.4.2 channels (if actually counting it's 9.6.2) I have an extra pair of front mains (sudo wide) and extra pair of up firing front ATMOS. Sounds amazing and digging ATMOS music.

There are many reasons. My home theater has always, and will continue to be an evolutionary work in progress.Others may already have an amp(s). For me, I had waited as long as I could, found a deal on an RX-A6A and use my old RX-A3000 as an amp (actually matches very well in power output). Using pure direct.

I may get a dedicated amp in the future and repurpose the old RX-A3000 but I'm happy right now. It has taken me years to piece together/upgrade/redesign my system and it'll never stop. Whatever the next evolution is, I'm down for it...at a reasonable cost

Why would anyone pay that kind of money for a solid state receiver of any kind?
With that amount of money you could get a respectable tube amp...

You have no idea how some audio equipment work with that comment

I've enjoyed this AVR. Originally purchased when I had a 5.1 setup . Plenty of power with eco mode off . HOWEVER, at 7 channels the power starts to drop due to safety features built into the system. I've since upgraded to a 5.4.1 and while watching movies it's still enough power but I listen to a lot of music at loud volumes and our floor plan is a pretty open area . I ended up purchasing an external amp to increase power and take some load off of the AVR. Looking back I think I would have gone with something different to avoid the external amp but I've been very happy with this AVR. It's heavy . Keep that in mind if you have a mediocre shelving system.

More info below if interested in lots of other data . Some of it I found useful while others were too far in depth for what my ears can notice .

I would think that your separate amp would provide more power than most any AVR and was the best way to go.

Still cheaper than buying a pre-pro. In some cases, more features (120hz gaming and LLM)
