If you hate scents and haven't used these before here is a warning - after you do the cleaning cycle with this it will make your dishwasher smell like a disgusting chemical perfume for weeks. It will stick on your dishes as well. I was wondering why my glasses of water tasted bad and I realized it was from whatever scent this leaves behind. I ran multiple vinegar/baking soda cycles after to try and remove the scent and it didn't completely help. Only thing that removed it was time.

I just used one of these for the first time yesterday. Basically, you peel a sticker off the cap revealing a wax plug. You place the bottle in the bottom rack cap down. As it heats up the liquid drips into the dishwasher cleaning it. The bottle is single use, and is empty when done. I had no problem with it. I'm wondering if people have problems because their dishwashers just aren't getting hot enough?

I couldnt get the wax plug to melt to on these even on the hottest setting. Others have this issue based on reviews. I would recommend pods over this.
I use these regularly on 3 brands of dishwashers - Miele (@home) and Samsung & Maytag (rentals). Never had any issues and works as advertised. Use these on Miele every 2 mos alternating with Miele dishwasher cleaning kit ($$$) every 6 months

I got this last time it was this price. It leaves a very strong chemical scent.

And here I figured if your dishes inside were cleaned, so would the entire inside of the machine. Which it is.

Please observe if the water is heating up…the wax plug should melt very easily….i test the water heat with my hand when the water drains during cycles into the sink drain

I've never had an issue either and have used them a lot.

I've been using these monthly for lots of years and have never had an issue with the wax melting. I bet you're right, their water isn't hot enough.

Yes, I had the same experience. The chemical smell lingered for days and was pretty unpleasant.

The clean smell does linger for quite some time. For me I think it was weeks versus days. Totally hit or miss whether you like it. It does smell like chemicals but I thought it was pleasant enough. I'm not sure how much it 'cleaned' but if you have any lingering musty odor then you'll appreciate this for what it does.

Yeah just like if my hands are clean after washing them in the sink then the entire sink must be clean.

I've had my Samsung stainless (inside and out) dishwasher for 8 years without ever any smell to remove. Do people with plastic instead of stainless steel tubs need this?

These do more than remove any scent, they descale the dishwasher internally. Pumps, water lines, etc. The benefit of this type of dispenser, is you properly run it with dishes. The tablet version, need to be run with the dishwasher fully empty to put it in the basket, the basket opens after the first pre-rinse. If you drop that tablet in the dishwasher bottom, the pre-wash will dissolve & drain the tablet before its intended use during the longer real wash cycle.
