Yes, Synology devices support USB3, but I've only seen them with USB-A (rectangle).
You can get 10gb PCI cards for almost the same price on eBay.
If your device cant support a PCI card, take that into mind next time you build one.
Also you can setup failover, so atleast that can help with some of the risk in using a less reliable USB device.
I have the 10gb PCI card as the main interface that will fail over to the built in 1gb port.

Though, I think gigabit is faster than most of us need 99% of the time. Heck, many areas of the country don't even have gigabit internet service. Point being, I'd stil buy the hub.😄
