Burying the lede here... usb>eth are a dime-a-dozen all over.

The relevant feature here is 2.5 gbps -- those adapters are typically in the $20-30 range.

Two point five gigabit which is two point five times faster than one gigabit. That's why it's a deal.

I bought this just before it was FP. I have to say I'm very happy with it on a M2pro mini.

Hmm. Going to put this on an Unraid build and see how it goes. Hopefully driver support exists. If not, I wonder if it'll work on a Synology. Time to google.
Does your Synology have a USB-C connection? Or, are you planning on a USB-C to USB-A?

Yes, Synology devices support USB3, but I've only seen them with USB-A (rectangle).

As a Systems Engineer who has OTT home NAS systems I highly recommend against using a USB ethernet adapter for full time duty, these are more for on the spot transient jobs.

You can get 10gb PCI cards for almost the same price on eBay.
If your device cant support a PCI card, take that into mind next time you build one.

Also you can setup failover, so atleast that can help with some of the risk in using a less reliable USB device.

I have the 10gb PCI card as the main interface that will fail over to the built in 1gb port.
Thanks for the tip. I had planned on putting a PCIe NIC 10Gb in, but then I couldn't have a 2nd HBA card for additional drive space. The UnRaid server only pulls Plex and Docker duties, so it's not critical to have 2.5G beyond moving large files around. I'll skip this then.

Why is this a frontpage deal? Because of the 2.5GB speed alone???

This adapter is less money and way better:

I use my android phone as a 4k video camera using NDI app. Speed is important but how stable is the connection?

Ive had their 5gbe adapter and that thing is extremely unreliable. I've tried everything from changing the USB settings to always on max power setting etc but no matter what I do it drops connection at random. I don't know if this is the same chip but be warned they have not provided any new drivers for their 5gbe or addresses the dropped connection issues on it either.

none of the 2.5G version are intel NIC,
which kind of important if you thinking about loading ESXI
but should be find if you do proxmox or other hypervisor

Has any tried putting 2 of these on a Synology for SMB3 support? I would like to decommission the built in 4x1gb ports for 2x2.5gbe on my DS1520+. I seem to be peaking around 250-300 MB/sec using the 4x1 gbps so I suspect there's a lot of overhead involved in more connections in SMB3. Plus it'll open up some ports on my switch.

I tried the 5gbe sabrent adapter last year and it wasn't particularly reliable plus it was pretty hot.

Was my exact thought, until someone pointed out the speed.

Though, I think gigabit is faster than most of us need 99% of the time. Heck, many areas of the country don't even have gigabit internet service. Point being, I'd stil buy the hub.😄
Have you ever in your life copied files over a gig connection and had to wait? if so it's not fast enough.

Does anyone know if this can be used to transfer large files over a LAN from a cell phone to a computer?

I know there's probably a bunch of other ways to get it done, but just curious if Android phones specifically can use something like this to hard wire into a LAN. Thanks
