ASUS is a garbage company that uses their RMA department to commit massive fraud. I will never buy anything from ASUS again.

The screen on the Go is almost 2" bigger …same chip and graphics as the ally x. Depends on preference.

Emulation runs on Linux woot
Sooo you're saying this yes they all can run emulation? Only issue could be the hardware to know what system you can emulate?

He is a bit over dramatic for sure. However ASUS has been investigated by reputable industry tech journalists and have come under fire for issues with their RMA process above the average levels of incompetence that people have come to expect. Give it about 5 minutes and I'm sure Lenovo will come under fire for something. You pretty much can't buy tech that hasn't had some controversy associated with that company. Large companies like that always end up in something shady.

Decent deal but may as well pay 200 extra for an open box Asus Ally Rog X. Just picked one up for 630 and loving how well it works even compared to the Ally Extreme
It's all sunshine and rainbows until you try to send it in for warranty repair. Just look up "Gamers Nexus Asus" on YouTube and watch the magic.

I'm about to sell my Ally z1 extreme. I'm gonna wait and get the next gen version with the new 9000 series chip though. It's getting good reviews, I'm certain there will be something out by christmas if not sooner.

Seems some people use these for switch emulation
Why not just buy a switch for half as much?

Because then you'd have to pay for the games instead of stealing them

Edit - Ended up pulling the trigger. Hopefully I get a decent unit, if not, back it goes.

Heavier and more pixels too. That thing is a CHONK.

- You'll want to prop it on something instead of hold it, for any amount of time..
- More pixels is nice, but you lose a lot of fps with higher resolutions. You can lower the resolution, but whats teh point then?
- More pixels causes the gpu to work harder which means more power draw, more heat, louder fans and less battery life.

Love my Rog ally. The Sd card had issues, but I sent it in and they fixed it quickly and free. Reminiscent of the red ring of death on the xbox360. It was a known issue. Quick repair and sent back within a week. I mainly use it for emulation station. Works amazing for anything up to PS3 games . I held a legion at best buy and it was too chonky.

Bro you really need to learn about emulation a little, it can be pretty simple or pretty complicated depend on what you want. These hardware are overkill for most emulation but it takes time to do settings and build your library. Simplest way is go to arcadepunk and get an image burn it to an ad and it's all set up for you. But it won't be perfect.

Thanks for the info… last time I did anything with emulation was retro pi on a pi3 .. worked well but could not figure out wireless joystick

Also could not emulate past Nintendo 64, and that was pushing it.. maybe these hand helds will get me back into it again, could be cool for long flights

Does anyone know when the AMD Z1 will get an upgrade? I think Lenovo was holding out release a Legion Go 2 because of that. ASUS pulled the trigger to quickly and released the Ally X with same chip as predecessor.

Teh point is sharper image. Integer scaling means that even lowering the resolution from native, you'll get a nice sharp image thanks to higher pixel density. 2 inches more screen is significant on a handheld. My old eyes can actually read text in Stardew valley on this thing..

The real question we should be asking is why 144hz? 90 would have been plenty sufficient as most gamers are happy if they can manage 60 fps in a game on this thing.
