7 years of guaranteed security & software updates on Pixel 8a vs who knows? on OnePlus 12r?

Pixel 8a > OnePlus 12r.

I know a person with a Pixel XL which was released in 2016 and they are still using it in 2024. So yes, a Pixel can last 7 years or more.

Ew, no. These are two different worlds. One has guaranteed security updates, and the other is a gamble.

Cameras are good, but I've always been curious about the pixels for their cameras.
I've had a 2 XL, 4a 5G, 5a, 6a, 7a, and now an 8 Pro and the cameras on each (even the budget "a" models) have been stellar. Telephoto zoom on the 8 Pro is super fun and in 50MP mode this thing takes some seriously nice photos.

The pixels seem to not hold their value long used, and some people I know have oxmplained about battery life.
Pixel value and battery life ultimately tie into the same category to me: The Tensor chip was a great step in the right direction for Google, but they're definitely still refining and optimizing the silicon to their needs. The early Tensor Pixels definitely ran hotter and a bit slower than their previous Snapdragon cousins and had a noticeable drop in battery efficiency. Performance, battery life, overheating, and radios have defintely been improved with each generation but IMO it's still just not quite as refined as a Snapdragon or iOS chip yet so their value in the long run suffers.

Anyone think Pixel 8s will drop further in price, as the new Pixel 9 launches/black Friday?
I think I'll wait and see. I want to upgrade my 6a.

I've had a few different a models from the pixel line as well and have had nothing but good luck with them.

I should have got on the 8 with the iPhone 11 trade-in, I got it so I could work with my customers funds when they were unable to but I just got bored with it. Unfortunately, Google's got their hooks in me

Has the fingerprint scanner behind the glass gotten any better?
Is there still no headphone jack?

I'm still rockin' a 4a and will continue to do so until Pixel releases something more reliable and smoother to use than what I have now....

Yes, they say we should only trust Google to steal all our data. Not a subsidiary of China's BuBuGao corporation..

NO, still shit. But face unlock works 90% of the time during the day. shake head

The sensor is actually fine if you don't have a glass screen protector, if you use a glass screen protector, which is everyone, then it's garbage.
