ADB Appcontrol is probably the easiest solution for people unfamiliar with adb. It provides you with step by step instructions and a GUI, so you don't have to do everything by command line. https://adbappcontrol.com/en/

Just run the debloat wizard and it'll give you recommendations on what to disable.

Watch out on unintended consequences of this deal! I tried using the steps outlined and had to call to find out why I was ineligible.

I called and they got me the deal but I think i no longer get free Amazon Prime as a long time Metro account holder. They messed with my account to make me eligible and in hindsight I'd rather get Amazon Prime for free than an unneeded tablet for $20.

My current phone plan that I still use has a billing end date on 12th of each month. How would billing work if I ordered this tablet? Should I order on 13th when I am billed for current phone plan to match up the billing period and not pay more than I need to? I don't plan to continue with the $20/month tablet service after 1st month.
Whichever time you add the tablet, Metro will still charge you $20 for whatever time you have remaining for that month. So I guess to get the "most" out of it, you'll want to purchase it at the beginning of your cycle.

I don't know if this applies to your post, but I bought about 9 tablets last deal that was sent to Rancho Cucamonga, CA (San Bernardino County), and I was never charged tax once.
That sounds correct based on the posts above.

Since you are the original poster:
The #3 in your original post above doesn't sound correct in most states, including CA. I don't know of a state that it would apply, but there may be one or two.
"3. Purchase the 64GB Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ 5G and pay the applicable sales tax on the pre-credit price at time of purchase"

If anyone here knows of such state, let us know.

So, IF you purchased today 8/5/2024 and say you activate it on 8/7, then the $20 will be charged and you'll have until the 12th to cancel the $20 tablet service as on 8/13 you'll be charged another $20 for the next billing month, and this tablet will cost you $40.
So, you'll have only 5 days of service usage, NOT 30 days/a month.

As the OP above stated, IF you care about getting the full 30 days of the $20 tablet service then you should order it on the first day of your billing month, and cancel the service on the last day.

BUT, then again, this deal may be DEAD tomorrow and you'll miss it if you wait to purchase it on the first day of your billing month.
It's your risky decision!

Thanks!
So, the CA Metro dealer stores charge the full price sales tax even though the item is to be free.
And the Metro Corporate stores did not when they were in business.

It looks like CA has some distinctions on the charging of sales tax.
It seems like the Metro dealers must by CA law collect the sales tax because they are considered resellers of the product who will later be reimbursed by Metro-by-T-Mobile for the cost they paid to Metro.
While the Metro Corporate stores weren't obligated by the CA sales tax law to collect the sales tax because it was considered their product.
Similarly, the online Metro sales on the free tablets are not subject to sales tax, it's their product.

The same will apply to most all stores in CA since the vast majority of stores are resellers of products, like Best Buy, etc.
Best Buy and other stores, online or physical stores, cannot offer a truly free product like, say a $1500.00 iPhone or android cell phone unless it collects the CA sales tax on that price, probably over $100.00.
That's really a weasel way for the state to fleece the people!

This distinction does not apply in most other states where if the product is discounted or free there's only sales tax on the actual customer purchase price, making the product truly free or truly discounted no matter who the seller is.

If anyone in any other state has a similar experience to CA, chime in.
Even stores are not supposed to tax the full price of the phone . Metro authorized stores are known to be scummy. Not sure how the Metro system is coded but they never charge tax on the full amount in CA while on Samsung we have to pay tax on the full value.

So, yes, it is true in CA, they forced buyers to pay the tax on full value of the phone but not on MetroBy Tmobile.

So far I ordered two with the same address. I got the "call to complete your order" message when I tried a third time. I'll see what happens within the next couple of days (if I can order more).
Let us know if you succeed. I just ran into the same problem. I've failed 4 times (different browsers, devices, networks, and even VPN). Last time when this same deal was active, I was able to snatch 4 before the price went up. My record shows there was a 4 or 5 day gap between the first two orders and the last two. I remember running into the same problem but can't remember how it got resolved.

He doesn't need to order on the first day of billing to get the full 30 days of the $20 tablet service. He just need to ACTIVATE on the first day of billing and thus he actually needs to order several days before the first day of billing to get the tablet delivered before the first billing day.
The $20 is not used until the tablet line is activated.
Actually if you never activate the tablet line, the $20 will be applied to your account as $20 credits and reduce your bill for next month by $20.
If you don't care about unlocking the tablet and using the tablet line service, you can actually use the $20 towards your phone bill on the same account and save $20, and the tablet is 100% free and you don't even pay extra for its monthly fee as soon as you don't activate the tablet line and you also use metro's phone service on the same account.

The $20 tablet line fee is also prorated. If you activate the tablet right in the middle of your billing cycle, $10 will be used for the current billing cycle and the rest $10 will be applied to next billing cycle as credits.

Did you try ordering to a different address?
Or even adding something like a different apt# or floor etc (if possible-doesn't necessarily have to be real).

Looks like dead online.
Gives message:
"Uh oh, this device is currently unavailable online. Find it at a store near you."

EDIT:

Looks like it's back in stock online.
May be going in/out of stock.

I signed up for the $30 byod plan on their website this morning. When I went sent to the store to get this tablet deal, they said the system isn't allowing them to add it to my account and I have to wait 30 days. It has never been like that before. Thoughts?

I chatted with them and they told me 30$ plan is a legacy BYOD and won't allow online line add. They were able to upgrade to 35$ plan. I'm not a metro customer other than for this deal so I don't mind the extra $5.

Maybe because these have tiny RAM.
I have one as well and there must be more than that. It has 4gb RAM.

I have old old 2019 tab A 10.1 tablets with 3gb? Ram and it's about on par with them. I don't even have anything loaded really on it. I wanted it more for hotspot.

I'm not well versed in all the tech but it's notable enough to catch my attention.

That's what is holding me back. I get amazon prime and google one, plus the 15gb of Hotspot, which comes in handy from time to time. All of it for 30dlrs a month per line. I'm afraid this tablet deal will mess with my BYOD plan and they'll move me to one of the new ones. Last time I checked I didn't find anything better than what I currently have, at least for that price.
I'm on the BYOD plan. edit: the $25 unlimited-no hotspot plan. not the one you seem to have with Google One and prime. I got one of these tablets back in April/may added to my line with no problem.

Then I tried to order a second and I was confronted with security questions (not sure if it was because I was on PC or using a different browser) and timed out while I pondered what color car I owned 30 years. I was locked out ever after that and kept calling to get it fixed. They never did, but tried to swap plans for 10 minutes to get me the deal blah blah blah. It didn't work but they did switch my back to the BYOD without issue.

I gave up. Especially since the price went up to $50. It's not a great tablet but I like the data and changing the apn makes the hotspot unlimited so far.

Long story short, I didn't even try again when this deal came back but for some reason today I said why not. I just got through the ordering process without issue! I guess I just had to wait 4+ months for the lock out to drop.

Can you comment some more on the apn unlimited hotspot hack?
Is there a risk of getting banned on doing it?
