ADB Appcontrol is probably the easiest solution for people unfamiliar with adb. It provides you with step by step instructions and a GUI, so you don't have to do everything by command line. https://adbappcontrol.com/en/

Just run the debloat wizard and it'll give you recommendations on what to disable.

Watch out on unintended consequences of this deal! I tried using the steps outlined and had to call to find out why I was ineligible.

I called and they got me the deal but I think i no longer get free Amazon Prime as a long time Metro account holder. They messed with my account to make me eligible and in hindsight I'd rather get Amazon Prime for free than an unneeded tablet for $20.

Did you try ordering to a different address?
Or even adding something like a different apt# or floor etc (if possible-doesn't necessarily have to be real).
I tried to change "CIR" to "Circle" in our address but their system checked the address I put in against an official postal address database and corrected it for me!

I had the suspicion that a credit card under a totally different person might work since ID verification would be different. Unfortunately I don't have one. I tried one with my wife as the primary card holder. It failed again after submission.

It appears Metro might have enhanced its fraud prevention algorithm since the last deal. I remember more than one person was able to order a dozen or more last time.

EDIT: my eldest has his own debit card. Didn't work either! Probably because it still uses our home address.

Can you comment some more on the apn unlimited hotspot hack?
Is there a risk of getting banned on doing it?
I haven't heard any issues with being banned. I don't use it enough to abuse, mostly for travel. I imagine maybe one day they'll be able to prohibit this work around but it's been around for a long time.

Here's a reddit comment with a screenshot of one setting that worked. Sometimes you have to toggle the tablet off and on multiple times. And sometimes after updates it'll revert. I have had trouble getting it to stick to my BYOD phone but that might be a quirk or maybe because I have no hotspot allowance. it has worked for a few days previously.

there's another alternative setting that works for others. I'll have to hunt for it and edit to add.

I was able to order two. Haven't tried again, but if I have a use for a third one, I will try our friendly neighbor's address and see if it works. All my credit cards still have our home address as the billing address, so unlikely that will work. I think they might have just limited these to two per account for a certain period. Might have nothing to do with the address or credit card number. That would be super easy to implement.

Just opened a new Metro account and was able to order two. Most people here have been able to order two. The third order is the one that fails, but I haven't tried yet.

Edit: As expected, tried a third time and got the "contact us" message. Looks like they are limiting these to two per account now, which make sense.

Edit2: Tried different shipping address, different name (wife), different credit card also in her name, but no luck. So limit of two is confirmed. Not sure how long the cool off period is, but I guess two is better than none.

The $75 a month plan with the free phone (Motorola Edge 2024).

The phone won't unlock for a whole year. I guess I could sell it as a locked phone, but I think I will just keep it as a wifi device as it is a pretty decent phone. Not a fan of the curved display though. I think the Moto Stylus 2024 is a better phone. Got a few of those from the Total Wireless deal.

This deal definitely isn't as hot with a limit of two tablets, but I guess I should be happy with a decent Wifi only phone for 1 year, and two junk(ish) tablets for $118 (including the $3 Google Voice number). Definitely not like it was in the past when you could keep ordering more tablets.

I think the $80 total ($35 + tax + trade in cost) for the 8GB/128GB A9+ was a better deal overall. I got two of those for $160 total, which is better than getting two of the 4GB and the locked Edge 2024 for $118. At least those two tablets are more usable vs the 4GB ones.

8GB version of the A9+ is always wifi only. Which deal of 8GB A9+ are you referring to? Thanks.

Yes, WiFi only. The deal was posted here, but it's dead now. The 8GB/128GB WiFi only A9+ was $35 + tax if you traded in a 1st Gen iPad Air. I bought a couple of iPad Airs for about $36 each. Total out of pocket with tax was about $86 each for the A9+ (not $80 as I had previously stated).

I know it may be useful to some people, but I have zero use for a 4G/5G capability on a tablet as I would never pay the monthly price for a plan for tablets. Even if you are lucky and can get a $10 T-mobile plan, that is $120 a year. I can't think of a situation that would justify spending that much on a data plan per year.

Seems like 2 is indeed the hard limit. Kind of regret of going through $30 BYOD and then having to upgrade the plan to order the tablet. Should have done an iPhone 11 at $75 - even after a year from now, unlocked iPhone 11 will still be worth more than $100.

Yeah, that is exactly why I got the $75 Edge 2024. At least I can use it as a WiFi device and sell it next year if it unlocks. The phone's (crazy) retail price is $550 for the unlocked version (current price on Amazon), so I think I can sell it for at least $150 next year. I might also just keep the phone and give it to my wife, but I already bought her a Stylus 2024 for $100 or so from the Total Wireless deal, and that one unlocks in 60 days from activation. I am swimming in gadgets. Haha.

Last time this deal was on, I joined the party too late towards the end of May. Did what you did and ordered the $30 BYOD and was able to order one tablet. They raised the price to $50 immediately after my first tablet shipped, so I never ordered another one. So the one tablet and one month of plan ended up costing me $50. Sold that tablet for $120 after using it for a couple of weeks, so at least it was not a net loss, and I did use the $30 unlimited plan during a vacation just for the data (saved me around $6 in data costs on my main line). So my net cost there was $44 for the tablet and a net profit of $76. Too much hassle for the profit, but at least I didn't get stuck with the 4GB A9+.

At least you were able to get two tablets out of your $30 plan. Whether you keep the A9+s or sell them, you will still be fine. But this deal is definitely not worth doing just for the profit. I am thinking of gifting the two tablets I got, and I will get more return in the form of goodwill in that way that the small profit that I will make selling these.

Another benefit for the wifi version is that you can unlock the bootloader and root on the wifi version, but not on the 5g version.

Yes, and great trade in value which often doesn't matter if it's locked. Though they have been oos for a while...

You could try opening a new Metro account with an iPhone 11 (or any other free phone) and ordering another tablet. I have a feeling these are limited to two per account, so opening another account with another $75 line may work. The worst outcome is that you would be stuck with an iPhone 11 for which you paid $75. You can easily recover more than that by selling it next year or trading it in.

Anyone here willing to try this? Smilie

Just ordered a third one on the same account/address.
