Worth noting I got 6 months of Peacock Premium free with it ($48) for new EPL soccer season which I was planning to get anyway, so saved even more money.

Now the choices are pretty much the South Korean manufacturers, (Samsung and LG), Vizio, or all kinds of Chinese TVs. I know the Koreans, and now the Chinese have pretty much pushed the research and innovation bubble, but I still find it hard to believe that we as consumers aren't losing out by having more choices, especially now that all those very high quality Japanese brands are no longer in the mix.

Monopoly means efficiency is reached. We know in truth it's rarely that, but none the less that's the view of our government.

But at the same time, you're also right that maybe if Panasonic, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, etc. had sunk a little money and research into flat panel Tech instead of holding onto their CRT domination they'd still be in the TV game.

Now that starts to sound eerily like communism, and we know that doesn't work in practice. In theory though, it's probably the best system.
So capitalism and monopolies are the same. The problem is, there's judgment call on where the line is of what is okay, and what is not. What is tolerable, because the benefits outweigh it.
Point is, it's a lot more nuanced. Sometimes regulation to try and fix it, causes unintended negative consequences as well. Ultimately, the problem isn't politicians or even the government.
The problem is humans. We have a desire to be better than our neighbor, to demand more materialism and wealth. Why do you think a person is far more likely to be happy living in the nicest house in the crappiest street, rather than live in the crappiest house in the nicest neighborhood?
With that said, yes politicians get bribed and paid by lobbyist. However, you cannot operate without lobbyist either, so you have to take a stance on some things, and let others go. That's the reality of it, and is the pragmatic approach. Right or wrong.
After all, how many of us sit here and say we could do a better job, only to be chewed out by the system and end up doing the same?
On top of that, the popular policies aren't necessarily the best or appropriate policies either. Just look at our own system. We have laws in place to protect free speech, but that leaves the government powerless to fight fake information that is hurting all of us.
Again, the problem is humans, and what we value and our beliefs that results in actions.
I don't have the answer. Only issues. ðŸ˜
