I've had one of these for 10 years and have never had any of these issues. I have left it in a drawer for a few months and found it dead, but after leaving it in the sun for a day or two it was back to normal.

I wear gshocks and citizens. I am NOT easy in my watches at all and my experience has been the opposite of yours. I have this watch and it's almost 20 years old. It's a tank and has never caused me any problems. No band issues, no charging issues and if you don't drag it across concrete you won't scratch the glass. It punches waaaay above its price point.

If you were having those problems, did you contact citizen? They have a 5 year warranty and would have taken care of the battery and the clasp issue you said you had.

Mineral crystal watch that scratched super easy, the band won't stay closed, and after a few years the battery wouldn't charge. Not worth it, and I exclusively wear Citizen watches. Find something better.

Additionally, it is not radio controlled.

Radio controlled for $225 is a stretch but possible.

This is well reviewed, old, and popular watch for good reasons. I have 4-5 citizens including the Titanium Radio Controlled watch, this one, and a few others and all of them have run flawlessly over the years needing nothing but occasional putting in sun if the battery runs down to very low and they stop. If you use them regularly, then not even that. I am sure I am not alone given thousands of people wearing and reviewing them (check Amazon).
As of this price point for this watch, its a good deal. Nothing smoking hot. Usually its at this price 2-4 times a year and a bit lower once or twice.

I have the blacked out version (black PVD coating) - bought it around ~2014 and it still works fine. I thought it was a goner in 2023 when I went to wear it. During Covid, I had it sit in a dark watch case for 2 years straight without ever wearing it (decided to just wear my smartwatch wherever I went) - so the rechargeable battery was completely dead. With rechargeable batteries, if it goes completely flat for a long time, the battery becomes unusable - even after you try to recharge it...many of my old laptops sitting in storage - no mattery how long you put it on the charger, it simply refuses to charge. I literally had the watch sitting on my window where it gets direct sunlight for 3 days straight - and the watch simply refused to charge. I decided to take the shade off of my lamp, and put the LED light bulb literally within 3 inches away from the watch. Within 5 minutes - I saw it start to tick again...so I just left it to charge like that for 12 hours...and has since worked back to normal to this day. So if you're having trouble reviving a solar powered Citizen watch, perhaps try putting it right next to a bright LED light bulb.

Amazon purchase history says I bought this in 2016 for $140. Man, can we go back to 2016? That time period everything was right with the world. For people that like math... $140 to $225 is about 60% inflation.....

The double locking clasp is one of the best you can buy. The mineral crystal won't scratch if you just have a desk job. The capacitor will last over 20 years. I have 4 Eco-drives including this one. One of them I have had for 20 yrs.

I actually just made a relevant recommendation in another Promaster thread, so I'll copy it here:

Quote from jay4470 :
Perhaps in mechanical movements, but in case anyone is interested in quartz, the Casio Lineage line, primarily a JDM line I believe (Japan Domestic Market), has sapphire crystals, and is phenomenal value in general for the features. E.g. the LCW-M100TSE (ana-digi, but there are pure analog dial models too) has, among other things, a sapphire crystal, titanium case and bracelet, is solar powered, and has 6 band radio for atomic sync, all at a ~$150 price point - extremely hard to beat that value and worth checking out for anyone in the market for a moderately dressy and incredibly practical everyday watch IMO.
