These streamers stream music from services like Spotify, Apple Music, etc. You can stream music from your iPhone, for example. However, the streaming services stream music at a very high resolution (CD quality or better), and if you have a good enough HiFi system and want to take full advantage of the high-resolution stream, you may want to have dedicated streamers like these.

I own the standard A6 and it's incredible for the price, especially with this sale. It's closer to state of the art than any sub-$1,000 component has a right to be and has many features I'm still not even taking advantage of yet. The firmware is updated frequently and new functionality has been added since I bought the unit. Highly recommended, if you're on the fence.

I use a laptop on a stand connected to a Schitt DAC. Laptop is a convertible touch screen one.

I find this much easier to navigate and find/like music artists etc. DAC can always be independently upgraded.

So you pay $800 to stream mp3 quality music and play garbage quality that is 3% less garbage compared to your phone? And instead of simply playing on BT speaker you have a pile of amplifiers and dacs and streamers... to get that 3% placebo improvement?
Mmm... okay. I always wondered who on earth buys all these dacs and streamers that are reviewed on ASR every day.
I personally can't imagine a scenario when I would need one of those nor do I quite understand why any sane person would use them.
But to each their own, I guess. There's many ways to spend your money stupidly, and I guess I found another one.
You are so misinformed on so many levels that it is impossible to respond to your comment. I don't think anyone can say anything to change your mind anyway. The bottom line is that if you are happy listening to music through BT speakers, that's great! However, someday, you may want to spend some time listening to well-made speakers and electronics to see if you hear any difference. Like anything in life, spending money doesn't always get you a better product. A car that costs 100K and one costing 40K does the same thing, taking you from point A to point B. There is nothing wrong with the 40K car, but a well-researched 100K car will give you a different level of performance, which is why those who can afford it will spend the money.

Both these devices have integrated support for Apple Music, so you can login to your Apple Music account and play lossless audio directly from the streamer. No need for Airplay 2.

My understanding of Airplay 2 is that, while it does offer support for lossless audio, it converts lossless ALAC to 256 kbps AAC before sending it to the streamer

My streamer is a Denon AVR-x3500h that I use in 2.1 mode, mainly because it has Audyssey XT32 room correction. IMO room correction makes a bigger difference to sound quality than lossless vs highest resolution lossy usage

Ultimately your hearing is the weakest link in this sound chain and the perception of sound quality is quite subjective. Some audiophiles believe in vinyl as a good audio medium. However vinyl records have a signal to noise ratio (SNR) < 60 db

I bought my A6 a few months back and love it. Wish they had the sale at the time as I would have got the Master Edition.

Check out the WiiM Ultra for a much less expensive ($329) version of one of these streamer/DACs. Gets loads of great reviews.

For the start AppleTV maxes out at 24bit 48kHz, this goes to 24/192.

What is the difference from using apps on a Shield that is connected to my receiver?
I am wondering the same. If Nvidia Shield TV is connected to my receiver via HDMI, isn't the raw digital stream data passed from the streaming service to the AKM (or maybe ESS?) DACs on my Anthem receiver?

That is correct—the receiver DAC does all Digital.-to-Analog processing. If this is a new generation of Anthem receivers, it is probably ESS DAC.

I might go this route instead of a dedicated streamer. I guess it's not as neat as a dedicated unit sitting right by your amplifier, and depending on your setup up to 3 cables - usb to dac, optional power, and optional ethernet) and no remote. Still, the graphics on the laptop would be better and maximum flexibility.

This deal is definitely not for you. Just wait for some Beats headphones to go on sale.

I recently replaced an MRX1120 with an MRX1140. I think the new ESS are as good as the old AKM?

Shield should support up to 32 bit audio if the app supports it so I would think it has potential to be as good or better than one of these dedicated streamers if using external DACs?

I run around 6 Denon Heos devices on the same home network and it works great. Does anybody have any real world comparisons between something like the featured deal and say a Heos Link 2?

A few years ago I was building raspberry pi audio streamers before moving into Heos. Multi-room and simultaneous multi-zones was on the forefront then.

Curious how the audiophiles think this beats a Heos Link. For one, Heos doesn't supoort apple music. However, I have had iTunes wipe out my mp3 collection enough times I don't touch Apple for music lol.

The MRX 1140 is an excellent receiver and very musical. Please see the link below for the YouTube video from this guy, one of the better reviewers of audio gear. He compares Everesolo ME with Anthem AVM 90. Now, AVM 90 is Anthem's flagship processor, which costs 7K+, but it might give you some ideas.

I'm on their product page and it looks like no Spotify or Apple Music support. WTF? I also have a lot of music in Plex. Wish they did the equivalent of Spotify Connect.
