Why the downvotes? Similar high-end Windows laptops that cost this much are spaced much better. It's time for Apple to start actually putting decent storage and RAM in their lower-specced models. It's far past time for them to shore up minimum specs. And I'm an Apple fan.
My Apple laptops usually start to poop out on me after 8-9 years so compared to my 2015 MBP I'm using that I paid the same amount for back in 2015, this is a great deal IMO.
I was able to get this deal. These new comments are slow as heck! Buggy? Anyways I got this deal last week and I a m loving my new mac! Fast, beautiful - one solid machine.
I'll take it with the SD slot. The USB C-only era was painful with 256 GB. Maybe there are better thumb drives but the smallest ones I could find (Samsung) still caught on everything and were generally wobbly.
SD is definitely not the same.
I have 111GB in my Library folder alone of cache files and things that applications use. Throw a couple of 4K videos to edit on this thing and the drive is instantly filled.

For the folks who have this, so what's the verdict on Space Black? I've watched about 10 videos and although it isn't a fingerprint magnet like the midnight blue, it still does attract loads of prints, does it? And how are the ports, anyone having problems with the color chipping away already? Really like to try the Space Black as my Dell XPS is already solid white, then again I do love me some classic Silver.

I got the space black and love it! There are some fingerprints but it's not that big of a deal to me, easy to wipe off. I have not had it long enough to say if the ports will get some chipping but nothing so far. I ended up signing up for the BB credit card which has 15% back in BB store credit essentially so about $225 to spend at BB in addition to the $1499 price. Great deal!
It's very insulting that 1500$ only gets you 512gb 🤦
I got the big boy M1, 1TB refurb for $1400 last christmas season @ Microcenter. Boo, on Apple for not listening to the consumer who wants 1 TB SSD. Jesus, it's 2024 & they still trying pedal 500 GB HD 😱

Because this isn't a Windows laptop. This has a better trackpad, keyboard, OS, ecosystem, and build quality. Windows laptops are usually just parts in a box with a Windows OS tossed on.

The biggest negative about Windows laptops is the horrible sleep behavior on all of them. You can't simply close the screen and have an instant on next time you open it. Its clunky. With a mac, you open the laptop, fingerprint and bam- your in where you left off. Also, macs consume way less battery on sleep- leave a windows machine on sleep for 3 days and its dead.
Any tips on getting the warranty to match Costco's deal (2 years)?
some Credit Cards, like Amex, usually give an extra year warranty on electronics. Amex also does something like the first 90 days (or something) complimentary damage protection.

i actually returned it and went with silver. i get very paranoid that something is on the keyboard or near the hinges and I always swipe my hand across to make sure there isn't bc i can't see if there is bc of the dark color... with silver, i can visually see if anything is there. sort of a me issue, but i don't want to close the laptop and have something accidentally crack the display bc i couldn't see it. i did like it more than silver tho. still gets fingerprints

Professionals spec their machines to fit their needs. It sounds like you need a bigger ssd, so spec a 1TB or 2TB.
That said the video pros I know (including our team) use portable drives. No internal drive can handle our workflows so we have lots of T7's and network storage. Internal capacity is almost irrelevant.

I personally prefer Amex [reddit.com].
