This or the pioneer LX805 at bestbuy for 2k? The pioneer was just posted on here today as well. I'm watching both. Thoughts? Good time to buy it wait for next gen? Thanks everyone.

I have the A2A that I use as a 2 channel preamp in a bedroom system and at that I really like it. Registered it online with Yamaha and got the 3 year warranty bumped up to 5.

This is older, the 805 just recently came out.
Many people in here claim these all sound the same.
If true then comes down to features.
The 805 has a much better RC and more features.
Here is a comparison of the two.

Well, there are two people on top saying Yamaha is better. I bet they said because it sounds better. So, statistically speaking, not many people say they sound the same. Imo, for sound perspective, Yamaha sounds better. But, it depends on the guy's taste. According to the comparison link, they have similar technical prospectives.

Oh I agree I definitely don't follow under that train of thought.
I also agree it does come down to preference first.
Yamaha is a great example!
People always make a big deal about Dirac yet people still believe Yamaha is better.
Not to mention people define better differently and often people haven't even listened to both.
Looking to buy my first A/V for home theater and TV room. 11.2 should be good.
Yamaha Rx-A8A or Onkyo TX-RZ70?
Onkyo is selling for $400 more but somehow top seller.
Thanks for suggestions.
I would suggest figuring out what configuration you want/fit following this guideline.
Then you can go after the speakers, the AVR can come afterwards imo.

The 11 channel receivers is where the hierarchies between brands really begins to change. I have the A8A above the RZ70 based on the balanced inputs. The LX805 is probably better than both with XLR and a 1095w power supply vs 600w on the Yamaha. The Pioneer also comes with Dirac Live Premium.

Buy the feature set and room correction that you prefer/need

The Onkyo, according to Audioholics is probably the best AVR under $3000
In my opinion, its the best AVR under $3500
There is also a double blind test out there with AV professionals that selects Dirac over the other room correction systems, as their preference, offered by the Asian manufacturers

I would compare DAC & DSP specs and also look for features in setup menu (example - crossover). Last is XLR out just in case you want to expand into 2 channel critical listen with external amp. Most people say in short distance there isn't any difference between XLR & RCA and I have to disagree with that. Dirac is great but that is someone else ears not mine, same with THX BS.

I have an RX-A3080 and wonder if it's time to upgrade.
I use an external amp for the fronts and another one for the center, so power isn't a concern. I already have 11.2 speakers in the room.
But the room is funny (cathedral ceiling, kitchen behind), and in my office, the Schitt Syn seems to do a better job enveloping you with surround with only 4 speakers very close.
Wonder if it's worth the upgrade for the room correction and decoding features.
