I'm switching all my Wyze cams over to Tapo. Like the fact that it's 2K and has RTSP out of the box. Also can be steamed with Smartthings natively.

Only downside is that if you're using RSTP, you can't record to microSD and their cloud service at the same time. Has to be one or the other. And without a subscription, can't get notifications with snapshot.

But glad I made the switch.

This thing is great. I've tried a lot of systems (original tp links, Yi Cameras, Kami, Wyze, Google, Ring, and eufy) this probably the best free system with actually useful features. Highly recommend if you're planning to stay off cloud storage or contracts.

I own 6 of these. The best bang for the buck out there. They finally fixed the wifi connection issues a few months ago. 10/10 I would recommend these cameras.

I have been using several Tapo C310, a C520, and a C110 cameras. I have been very happy with them. The app is easy to use. Picture quality is much better thany nest outdoor and nest door bell camera
How is the Tapo app? Does it spam you like the Yi Home app? Are there advertisements in the app?

On the fence of adding some different cameras outside. Currently have Blink. But they are pricey.

If I read this correctly there is no motion detection notification if you don't pay for their subscription service?

Thanks in advance!

Dum question, but are the 2k all the same for you? Also which model do you recommend?
Just discover this brand and there's a lot of choices!

If You have a good internet coverage around your house with a mesh system. it shouldn't be an issue.

You can use them with ONVIF or the Tapo Control addon. Motion detection is basic via these addons though (any motion triggers an action; no person only, etc), and not 100% reliable when I tried it. I've read you can work-around it by creating an automation in the Tapo app to control a Tapo smart plug or other Tapo device (ie: person detected -> toggle plug), then detect that plug's status in HASS.

The camera supports RTSP, so it will probably work with Frigate.

What is everyone using to power these? I was looking for an adapter that could fit inside an electric box where I have a light but no outlet.

I've wanted to switch to Tapo. So if I don't have a subscription, and just have a micro SD card will I not get any activity notifications?

This looks like a good option for me except I'm looking for a POE system.
I'm considering doing PoE, and using an Ethernet to 5V USB-C adapter at each camera.

You'll get activity notifications. I don't pay anything and get them.

I just grabbed a couple to replace my Wyze v3. Tapo is a much better camera than Wyze. Picture clarity and speed of the app. And the remote viewing via SD card. Playback is smooth and 10 fold faster than Wyze. Can't believe I've been using Wyze for so many years instead of converting to Tapo!
