Before the "bugs!" comments come in, rice farms cannot guarantee 100% that their crops are free of weevils and their eggs. When buying any brand of rice from any retailer, you need to freeze the rice for a few days before storing it. This will kill the eggs to prevent them from hatching.

I get the 25lb bags of jasmine rice from Sam's Club. It's about 17ish dollars. Though, we go through a lot of rice being half Filipino family. If you don't do a lot of rice, good price. If you do, not so good as it's almost doubled.

I'm Asian and eat rice 24/7. Jasmine is generally considered the ideal rice, soft and fluffy. Long grain is supposedly healthier but a bit firmer and "drier". Basmati grains are thinner and is also fluffy but has a different mouthfeel than Jasmine. I only like it in Indian dishes like biryani but it's a no for me on plain basmati. Medium grain rice like calrose is similar to jasmine but not as highly regarded. I don't even know how to explain the difference because calrose is also soft and fluffy but it's like jasmine is a diamond and calrose is an emerald. They're both precious gems but a diamond is a diamond, y'know? And that concludes my rice TedTalk. Thanks for listening.

Does moisture not affect the rice in a way to change the flavor?

Claims there is "no way to guarantee" rice is free of weevil eggs, then provides method they claim will kill the weevil eggs. Confused

I don't know how much better this brand is, if at all, but DT carries 2lb rice including Jasmine, all the time. So DT is half the price for these

Not a good deal. Unless you need a small bag . Costco Organic Basmati rice is cheaper and is 3 times better rice.

how do you quantify the goodness of rice?

jasmine is my go-to rice for serving as a simple side to a dish. it feels like rice is really a preference thing? (outside of using specifics varietals for structural purposes, eg risotto or sushi)

If you are good with 5lbs, Walmart is slightly cheaper.

Like the other person talking about basmati, you're talking about rice that's not comparable to jasmine. tamaki gold is short grain.
