It's $934 now with the BUYMORELENOVO code. If a beautiful 120Hz OLED display and an extra 32GB isn't important to you, then you can save an extra $145 but to me, OLED and 32GB is worth way more than $145.

This is not a gaming laptop.

64GB ram is overkill for most of the people and based on that, the other deal is attractive. But, there is Hell & Heaven difference between a 60 Hz 1080p 100% sRGB IPS display and this 120 Hz 2.8K OLED display and I would just go for this model just for that. The additional 32GB of Ram is added bonus.

Not a slickdeals. The integrated 780M graphic card is weak for gaming, the Ryzen 7 8840HS is so so, and the 64GB RAM is overkill. I wouldn't pay more than $650-700 for it.
What about for running a local LLM

We'll have to agree to disagree. Efficiency has nothing to do with the COST of the PHYSICAL RAM. They use LPDDR4X and LPDDR5X, just like every one else. Whether you need it or not and how much you need isn't up for debate. Assuming you do need 64GB and opt for the 64GB model, the price is much higher in AppleLand than in LenovoLand.
It's not a matter of subjective opinion lol... it shows you don't understand how os's use memory even after all that explaining... You are only looking at the mem freq, a fraction of the entire picture, and making unsound judgment from it due to not being able to grasp the whole story. And if you actually own an apple soc mac you would know, the difference in ram usage is so so explicit. Hopefully other buyers will understand.

780m is an igpu, sips on power compared to discrete cards, and is actually reaaaaaaally good at gaming for an igpu, one of the best in the market actually. 8840hs is not bad at all jeez your computing needs are quite high lol

I remember boomers was telling me there was no difference in 60hz and 120hz or it's wasn't worth it just 2 years ago. Glad they finally got with the time

Work bought me the Lenovo Carbon with 32 GB of ram with the OLED. Yeah, 64 gb of ram is overkill unless you do a million open tabs on chrome. The OLED monitor, however, is really, really nice. I run a couple of decent BenQ and LG office monitors for a tri screen set up and you really notice the drop off from the laptop's OLED screen and the LED whatever panels.

2.8k or even 4k seems so pointless in this size laptop.

Give me 1920x1200 and the extra vertical space for productivity and web browsing - thats the key.

I've owned a 4k screen that was considered a fantastic panel, and hated it. Everything is so small you either scale the image, which many OSes dont do so well, or downgrade the resolution.
Everything just gets scaled up 200% from the OS. I share your skepticism that 1920 vs. 4k is worth the load in pushing that many pixels for this size of screen, but I've never heard of a 1920 x 1200 OLED monitor. Do they sell those?

I'm sure I've seen a few, but the Asus Zenbook Q415M is a 1920x1200 OLED laptop.

And here I thought I politely left it so we could be done. But, you seem to want to misread or misunderstand my point. I thought I was writing English. "Mem freq"? Not mentioned anywhere in the post you quoted, and only once as a pure data point referring to your MBA, but certainly not the basis of anything I've written (which is about COST of RAM, for the 10th time) so I have to come to the conclusion no matter what I say, you're stuck on RAM efficiency and how Mac is the perfect device. And yes, I do have a MBP 16 w/M1 Pro. I'm out. Peace

The red center-point ...who uses that still? It's a thing of past.

Just give a high quality track pad...Windows multi touch/gestures does the needed from software side

Why can't this have a 4050 or 4060 in it?

I don't care about oled on a laptop.

I'm a business professional that enjoys gaming. I'm so sick of trying to find a decent laptop that ticks all the boxes.

I don't care for this igpu.

Lenovo Legion is the model for that

Just received mine. HOLY MOLY. I haven't set up Windows from scratch in a while, and it's truly a garbage experience. There are so many things to click through - no I don't want Game Pass, no I don't want One Drive, no I don't want an advertising ID whatever that is, no I don't want all this shit. I don't even want to use an online account, but it forces you to.

Usually I will wipe the computer immediately and install Ubuntu or Mint, but in this case, Bitlocker (encryption) was enabled by default. Which meant I had to go through the entire Windows setup process (~45 minute click-fest) in order to disable BItlocker. The disabling process wasn't even very clear. After that, I was finally able to install Ubuntu, which only took like 10 minutes start to finish.

Now that everything is set up, this thing is a beast. It's super fast. I have no idea how I could ever use 64 GB of RAM. The screen is gorgeous, although fractional scaling makes things blurry for my work app (Epic). I am going to 100% scaling in order to use Epic, and then leaving it at 150% for regular work. Battery life doesn't seem great, I went from 100% to 65% in about 1.5 hours of office work (Citrix, LibreOffice, Firefox). 120 hz on a non-gaming laptop is amazing. I don't want flashing LED's and crazy logos in order to have a high refresh screen.

Inputs (trackpoint, keyboard) are perfect.

Not sure about gaming performance -- the only game I play these days is Civ IV and that runs on anything.

Overall this is an amazing deal. Windows 11 absolutely blows. Setup took way too long because of Windows hassles. I'd probably still prefer 1900x1200 resolution to avoid fractional scaling hassles. I'm in the fence about keeping it due to that, but leaning towards keeping it.
