Tempting, but there were older HP's with the 5600g and discrete lowend GPU for the same price or less a year ago. Feels wrong to still pay that, but it's probably the only way to get it this low right now

Only once or twice of vitus 5600g+rx6400. $243. That deal is long gone. It's very hard to get one BTW. Sold out in minutes

It was $200 a couple weeks ago. They keep adding inventory since the $243 price and it's gone down ever since.

The onboard graphics are not enough, a 1660 super is a huge upgrade for these and cost about a hundred dollars used on Ebay. And you would also need a 310W PSU upgrade to power it. So by the time your finished you can find a different one with better graphics cheaper.

If you search there are some with a RTX 3050 or a 1650 in the $430 range. These would already have the larger PSU needed to run them.

Spot on. The value of the USD is plummeting and that fact is reflected in this price.
Odd the value of HP/dell/pop brands shouldve never been over $40.

HP : "we've got a great phoney computer to sell ya!"
People : "an I just happen to have some phoney money"

This is one of those phoney computer brands like dell that use proprietary cases, propritery power supplies, etc which usually don't have room for any changes. The disk drive position alone says you probably can't even add a ssd or storage drive. Dell/HP are always junk.

1x4 GB + 1x8 GB

For anyone wondering how they achieved an odd 12GB RAM in a desktop form factor. This config looks like it may have been built for Costco originally.

How would this be for running Plex and only Plex? My current HTPC is 12 years old. It runs 4K locally fine but it can't transcode more than 2 streams at decent quality without showing its age. All my media drives are in external enclosures via USB 3.0 so I don't need a large tower. $250 seems decent for a "plug and play" solution for upgrading my HTPC. I used to get into the weeds with components and customizing builds but as I get older and more kids have come along, my time is more precious elsewhere so I'm just looking to get something with Windows I can easily migrate my Plex server to and be up and running that afternoon.

For transcoding specifically, this probably wouldn't be a big upgrade from a 12 y/o PC. It has pretty limited CPU and integrated graphics.

As a power Jellyfin user, I'd focus on obtaining media you can direct play to your TV so no transcoding is required. It makes a world of difference not having to transcode.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't transcode to my TVs thankfully. I share my Plex with a few friends and family members across the world and that's where the transcoding occurs. Just looking to help them out but I do always suggest them to attempt original quality first in hopes it'll direct play.

I have two versions of this desktop, one that came with an rx5500 video card/400w power supply and one that came with a 6600xt video card with 500w power supply. Either of those versions is good enough for gaming like that at 1080p but the extra money for the 6600xt version is well worth it.

The one this thread is about would need a power supply upgrade plus a video card and that would cost more than just buying the right one to begin with.

Like the other person said the integrated graphics just aren't enough. Some people claim it is enough for fortnite if you lower all the video quality settings to 720p and complete garbage but I disagree. Who wants to play a game that can look beautiful at settings that make it look horrible?

Cheap basic PC.
Unlike a Mac you can probably make it a hackintosh and do upgrades replace the 4gb stock with another 8gb for 25 bucks and toss the 4gb out worth 10 bucks.

Ram is 50-60 bucks
CPU and gpu like 50-100
HDD 1tb like 40bucks
SSD 256 like 40 bucks.

Case 30-50 bucks.

It's a good deal for basics but I don't like the ram and HDD. unlike macs that can never be upgraded. So you got that going if it was soldered ram and HDD this would be worth less than 200.

But if I can deduct 50 excluding the those items I would. As I'll get my own parts. I would build it myself instead.

Diy entities like me keep prices low for these PCs. Thank us. Unlike apple that spikes prices while offering very little value.
