Non-owners always have a LOT to say about these ā€“ and believe me, I get it, I swore up and down I never wanted or needed one of these things. I got one as a gift two years ago and I would unequivocally say I would buy myself one now and have given a few as gifts. They just WORK and are perfect for a slow coffee drinker, like myself. For the record, I only opened the app once, I don't need to futz with temps after one setting.

My main tip, though: do not waste your time/money/coffee on anything less than the 14 ounce, the 10 ounce is just TOO little.

In my experience the warranty isn't the best. Have the Mug2 and lid broke when I pressed it in after a few months. Had to practically beg for them to do a one time exception and send me a replacement after sending pictures and videos of broken lid. Still had receipt and within 1 year of ownership.

The Gen 2 has a button on the bottom, you hold it down and it turns off.
Pro tip for my ember fam, buy a small pack of rubber coated baby spoons to stir your coffee.
Never use a regular spoon as it will chip the coating.

Spoken like yet another person who doesn't have the mug and has never owned the mug. Well for the record, I have my mug for almost 2 years. I use it every day, multiple times per day. I have probably used it over a 1000 times. Each time i use it, if I have to clean it I do it with hot water, a wet paper towel with dawn. I have NEVER had to scrub it even when coffee/milk is cakes on. I stir it with rubber coated spoons. So in over 1000 uses, my coating has NOT come off and my battery is fine. If you don't follow the care instructions, yes the coating will come off. If you do, it won't.

Seems foolish to me to waste your money on something like this. It's relatively small, non-portable, requires power to recharge and is non-durable. I personally would just get a really good vacuum sealed insulated mug that you can take anywhere that will keep you beverage hot (or cold) for hours. It's larger, more comfortable to hold (due to it's shape and is only slightly warm to the touch when holding hot liquids), fits well in your car's cup holder and is leak-resistant so you can travel with it where ever you want.

I got my wife this insulated mug and she loves it and says her coffee is still hot at the end of her workday: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...X0DER&th=1

I bet cleaning is much easier with the open mug style and if prefer drinking in a cup than in a mug , ember is the better alternative.

I have a weird love-hate with this mug.

I have found the bluetooth and LEDs to be unreliable (it is always, always, always, going back to the default.) but a positive is that the "fail condition" is still that it is a good mug that keeps your coffee at the ideal temperature.

The only reason the LEDs have mattered is that I have little kids and they are fascinated by the glow but I find it difficult to consistently get it to do what I want. So to entertain my kids I have to resync bluetooth more than I really should. The LED is probably a totally ignorable feature for most users though.

I would suggest possibly getting a second charging coaster. Consider your use-case; in my case I keep one in the kitchen and one on my work from home desk.

Lil Ember Story .... my first one a few years back (standard white) couldn't stand up to normal temperature coffee (140F) and a bunch of the white stuff flaked off after a while .... and where's it going??? Probably in my body..... So unless they've improved the standard version dramatically, I'd say never buy anything but a metallic version.

That being said, I've had the metallic one for 1.5 years and just a couple months ago it ceased functioning or charging and just had some error light code sequence, and of course eventually ran out of battery. Ember was worse then useless in support, stating that the best they could do (because one year warranty had expired) was a $22 discount on a ~$150 device, which didn't even bring it down to Amazon price....pathetic....and no insight on the error code .... I asked customer rep to escalate, and have gotten nothing ... so yeah they're getting a bad review soon.

Anyway, yes the devices are indispensable if you love your coffee/latte/tea a certain temperature and want to enjoy it in more than like 5 minutes. However, i would NEVER pay full price for one of these again .... I was sad to see the metallic version was already sold out in this link, because i would have probably swooped up 2 or 3 .... but good to know this option exists and I'll be on the lookout for a cheap metallic one! I don't recommend anyone pay full price for any Ember product - a premium product should come with better service ... at least 50% off list price for a replacement of a dud that's only 1.5 years old .... they could have kept a customer ... now they just get my rage.

Add me to those who have had a good experience with an Ember customer service matter. My charging saucer stopped working because one of the little metal tabs got stuck in a recessed position. They had me take a picture and then sent a new charging pad right away.

What a stupid reply lol. Not everyone has the same use-case, same job, same routine, same schedule. What's the point of trying to make yourself look busier or more important through an anecdote about how fast you have to drink your coffee? Nobody is impressed, you just sound like a snob.

Why OP's mug is a better alternative to a Zojirushi Stainless Steel mug that will/is:
1. Electronic-free mug (no need to re-charge, have it tethered constantly to a hot plate to keep it hot/warm and battery is non-replaceable)
2. Larger (16oz vs 14oz)
3. New (vs woot reconditioned (YIKES!! Stay away!!))
4. Cheaper (at least 1/2 the cost even vs a reconditioned item)
5. More portable (compatible with cup holders and is leak-proof)
6. More ergonomic
7. More durable (made of stainless steel)
8. More utility (works to maintain hot and cold beverages)

I own both a zojirushi and an Ember 2. The zoji is great but it is inferior to drink directly out of vs a mug style and coffee is too hot for ideal drinking temperature. Previously I'd pour into a regular mug a small amount and drink from it and use the zoji as my reservoir but my mug coffee would get lukewarm fast. The ember solves this by maintaining my perfect drinking temperature.

Having said that, the ember app is completely awful on android, terrible value at full price, battery life isn't great, sometimes thinks it's empty when it's full, and won't last years before something fails.

If you drink your coffee in 10 minutes or need to be fully portable then no don't get the ember mug. I haven't used the ember travel mug so I don't know about that one for portability.

I'm a daily coffee drinker, have a grinder and an aeropress. I got this as a gift and threw it out because:
1. Wires. I do not want to deal with more wires just for a small cup of coffee
2. Capacity. How long does one need to keep 14oz of coffee warm anyways
3. Quality. I found the quality of the coffee dminishes the longer you rewarm it.

For anyone thinking of getting this I would highly suggest getting an insulated mug instead. The mug is cheaper and will keep coffee hot for 2 hours, and just a bit below hot and above warm for 4 hours, and the cups can be larger like 20oz+. And the coffee quality stays the same because you are not heating it anymore. Oh and no wires.

I have tons of insulated and non-insulated water bottles for iced drinks (insulated for those super-hot days and need the drink to stay cold, and non-insulated for quick workouts where i want the ice to mostly melt within an hour or 2). But for warm drinks, the insulated stay scalding hot, and the non-insulated are plastic and get very hot to hold. I think the 16oz water bottle/mug sounds like a great idea for those fall/winter/early-spring days where just want a warm and not scalding tea throughout the day or a hike/walk. Its soldout, but made an offer on ebay for a open-box one for $60
