The 9403 is a legendary sander, I think it should be in every woodworkers arsenal. Nothing beats it for removing a lot of material fast. When straightening large beams with a power hand planer, I use this after to clean them up. No variable speed, just full power, hold on tight! I change out belts before they wear out so they have time too cool off from the friction.

I'm not saying there is no situation for sanding metal, but an angle grinder with the applicable disc is better. For heavy duty sanding of metal, step up to the 7" or 9" grinders.
