If you need >5 hours of battery, simply carry a power bank with you. I picked up a 145W/25000mAh power bank [amazon.com] for $40. It fully recharges to 100% this P14s when battery was at 15% so effectively a 10 hour run time IF (and it's a big IF) I'm not around a power outlet all day long.

What a weird shitty aggressive response to someone going "this deal is great at the price point, I personally wouldn't do it for xyz reasons". Apparently "any preference is autism now".

Meanwhile in the real world, having the ports in the rear means your cords are never in the space where you want to put a mouse, or a notebook, or your phone. They are never taking random useable space on your desk. Or getting crushed into the side of a couch while you work in the living room and wearing out the second frailest part of laptops (power port, only thing worse is screen hinges).

But sure, as long as you are weirdly ableist and also ignorant to why my list of dealbreakers is relevant, I guess you can just say "whatever autistic guy".

Christ what an asshole.

Generally speaking Amd Ryzen is superior to Intel. Intel have really pooped the bed these days. Hopefully they get back on track but, for now, i preference AMD.

That's interesting. Wonder why the discrepancy. I have the older 500 nit 16" Legion Pro 5 laptop and it's easily the best screen I've ever had on or off a laptop. It's why one of my 3 dealbreakers is now "screen quality/brightness". Didn't realize how nice this would be lol

400-nits is SDR, 600-nits would be in HDR.

Rear ports have their pros and cons. I've owned an Alienware X14 which has the ports in the rear which then necessitates the screen being moved forward so as to not block the ports. The X14 was a very slim and small laptop so the rear port design works. The cons are that it's clumsy (nice way of putting it) to do something as simple as plug in a USB thumb drive as you have to either turn the laptop 180 degrees or lower the screen and hunch over the laptop to see where the ports are. I would get to trying to memorize precisely where they were, hoping I could just reach-around. It was annoying. The other thing is with the ports on the back, the hot air exhaust is on both sides which is uncomfortable for your hand.

So, rear ports aren't a win-win but more of what you're personally willing to compromise on.

Seems you made other compromises -- the Intel version of the P14s doesn't give you an OLED options. They have a 3K IPS option but no OLED. So you have given up Ryzen, 64GB RAM and OLED. Curious what you wound up paying for an Intel P14s with 32GB and IPS? If it was close to this price then I'd say you gave up much more than you gained.

Director of Technology here - we use these for our devs and analysts (32GB RAM version though) and they've been rock solid. We have about 20 of these deployed at the moment and everyone prefers them coming from Dell. The CPU and RAM combo give the devs plenty to work with when virtualizing and provides the analysts plenty of horsepower to crank through our datasets (often 10s of millions of rows of data).

This is a killer deal for a non-gaming laptop where your use-case requires more than a web-browsing email machine. If we didn't have a strict procurement process, I'd buy another 10 of these to have on hand.

Sold my M2 Pro 14" 12/19-core after buying this and using it for a couple of weeks. I have the 96GB variant with 5G and bought it for $1250 minus rewards ($1200 afterwards). Battery is okay (3-4 hours on 120hz+5G and 4-6 on 60hz+5G+dark-mode), but it runs quiet, performance is amazing, never have to worry about RAM bottlenecks, 120hz matte screen is amazing for productivity, love the keyboard, webcam is excellent for calls, and easily the best experience I've had with Windows. Thought I would miss MacOS, but quit caring about it since I need fully functional Windows apps more. Parallels did not cut it. No this is not a sponsored psyop. Honestly just a great machine for the price. I can get shit done without worrying about anything else. Bought the 20,000 Lenovo battery too so I'm able to run around with all the battery life all day if I need it. Either way you can't go wrong. Just depends on what you want from your machine

I am interested in this. I want a laptop to be a pure utility machine, but I also want a Thinkpad. Do any modern Thinkpad laptops offer rear ports?

You want a ThinkPad or you want a Lenovo? A few of the current Legion laptops have ports on the rear but the ThinkPad design does not facilitate rear ports.

I got this laptop last similar deal. Had it about almost two weeks now. I really like everything about it. Everything feels solid and has a premium feel. Screen looks fantastic. Very snappy and handles some basic older games I like to play away from my desktop, np.
The battery does go pretty quick, but so far that hasn't been a big deal and a few hours away from a plug is more than I need. I will buy a battery bank if I go on a long flight or something.

Friendly fyi, I like using a sleeve with snug fit for laptops. The 14in one they advertise as recommended with it, is way too big imho. The 13in laptop sleeve case they sell is the perfect fit. I ordered a few in diff sizes to be sure and just returned what I didn't like and it was easy returns.

I paired the 13in sleeve in 'urban' like a grey color, with the 15.6 in Thinkpad essential topload bag (eco). The combo of the 13in sleeve in the 15.6in bag made a great fit with still room for the charger and a few other small things without feeling cramped, while also keeping the laptop feeling secure and padded. 🙂👍
At the time I paid $11.53 for the sleeve and $14 for the bag.
