The full specs for this laptop can be found here: https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/I...82QC006KUS

This is a pretty good deal at $200, and an obscenely incredible deal at $100 if you're able to get the ymmv $100 off any laptop microcenter coupon as mentioned below. The processor is decent for a low end laptop, and the only huge downside is the abysmal tn screen.

To my knowledge it is still possible to get the microcenter $100 off any laptop coupon as described in this deal: https://slickdeals.net/f/17573511-microcenter-100-off-any-laptop-coupon
You must be a "new customer" (aka. make a new account with a valid mobile phone number) to be eligible for the coupon. I was personally able to replicate it just a few weeks ago, and the latest comment confirms the coupon was still available just two days ago. If the method in the deal post doesn't work for you, the method I personally was able to obtain the $100 coupon with was through the following steps: Connect your phone solely to your mobile network (t-mobile in my case, make sure you aren't connected to wifi). Use chrome with the setting to permit pop-ups and redirects enabled (in the "content" subsection of "site settings", popups are blocked by default in mobile chrome). Open up an incognito tab with the exact url linked in that deal post, give the microcenter website permission to access location, and scroll down the page. If the pop up doesn't appear, or if it gives a different offer besides the "$100 off any laptop", close chrome and try again. It may take several tries for a pop-up to appear, and the $100 off any laptop offer pop-up seems to be rarer than the other offers.

The i3-1215u is a decent low end cpu, it's technically a 6-core processor but only has 2 performance cores, the other four are e-cores. The 12th gen alder lake architecture was a major leap in terms of intel processors, the i3-1215u has performance in a similar tier to the 11th gen i7-1165g7. For general purpose use (web browsing, basic office productivity, etc.) it should be sufficient, and vastly exceeds the "celeron" or "athlon" processors you'll usually see at this price tier.

The screen in this laptop is downright awful. Being tn means viewing angles are abysmal, the brightness of 220nits is even lower than the standard low end 250nits you'll see in budget laptops, and gamut coverage of 45%ntsc (~62% srgb) means colors will appear dull and washed out. The only saving grace is this laptop's price, at $200 the screen is only a major demerit, not an instant dealbreaker.

Having 8gb of soldered ddr4 3200 ram with an additional sodimm slot is good for this price range, being able to upgrade to 16gb in the future is a major plus. The 256gb gen 4 ssd is also good for the price, since at $200 you're still at the range that a**hole manufacturers will try to pawn off emmc e-waste storage onto customers. This laptop has a single m.2 2280 gen4 x4 slot occupied by the 256gb ssd. The other miscellaneous specs and ports of this laptop are decent for a budget laptop, and excellent for $200.

This laptop comes with windows in "s" mode by default, you can switch out of s mode for free by following the steps on this page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-...Windows_11

Overall, this laptop would be an incredible deal at $200 if the screen wasn't so terrible, but for those for whom the screen isn't a dealbreaker, this laptop at $200 still reaches the level of a pretty good deal. If you're able to get the $100 off laptop coupon as mentioned above, this laptop is an absurdly good deal at $100.

For comparison, this processor is 50% faster than a i5-6400, a desktop processor that is still running today in way too many builds 😂… this is like a Restomod Model T.

Yeah this is even cheaper than the asus vivobook deal bestbuy has every few weeks. The plus on this is 256gb vs the 128gb on the asus vivobook. I think 256gb is sufficient for basic use without having to drop another 30$ to upgrade storage.

I'm considering picking up a laptop to install Linux on. Basic use: browsing, writing, watching YouTube, and *very* light, basic gaming.

Would this be suitable for my needs? It wouldn't be my main system, just something to toy with, though I'm not interested in hunting down too many drivers.

Yeah but that desktop can probably be upgraded to 32-128GB of RAM and a discrete GPU. Soldered 8GB is a very low glass ceiling. I do agree that this is more than sufficient for some people.

I've never used hackintosh. I used to run Ubuntu and Windows dual system until WLS2 came out. How do you feel about hackintosh? Do ever you run into compatibility issues?
It took lots of effort to install it, not as stable as win / linux, but usable.

The clock rate varies depending on the workload:
"The clock rate ranges from 1.2 to 4.4 GHz on the performance cluster and 0.9 to 3.3 GHz on the efficient cluster"

I have this model. It's a nice little laptop, perfectly fine for browsing, streaming, office work, etc. Extremely light weight, makes travel easy. Definitely worth $200.

Can you elaborate? From my perspective, it looks like similar specs, half the SSD size, and costs 15% more. Did I miss something?
Screen is better and feels good for the eyes, has wifi 6E and you can get open box for 180-190$ from bestbuy.

8GB soldered and thus not upgradable makes this e-waste instantly.

Screen - 30 nits difference. Might not be noticeable to some. Not nothing but also not major.

WiFi 6 vs 6e - Recognized but, at least in my situation, the limiting factor is the ISP speed and not the newest standard. Per Speedtest, my years old router is matching my Spectrum internet package's claimed speed.

Price - Open box is not the same as new. Looked at that option in my area and the cheapest open box was $197 and that was only in "fair" condition, meaning it could have missing items like a charger.

We may simply disagree and that is ok. From decades of using this website, I've learned that there is ALWAYS a better deal somewhere! Granted, not everyone has a Microcenter nearby, but what I liked was that there was only one of the open box used Best Buy's computers within a wide area of me and yet my local Microcenter has 25 of the new posted laptops in stock.

It still has a 2nd DIMM slot for expansion.

This is a very specific question but does anyone know if this laptop supports "wake on/auto on by AC" in the BIOS. I'd like to use this headless and would need it to power on automatically when AC is connected. If anyone has any info on this or already has the laptop in hand, please let me know.
