Apparently there are some more hardcore openwrt-ers who believe luci is unnecessary bloat for babies and dummies and only use ssh command lines to adjust and configure all settings.
I believe that the procedure to switch between using the first / second partitions is to power-cycle the device three times with about a 5-second delay between them. My understanding is that this is kind of a fail-safe in case one partition becomes corrupted, then it automatically switches to using the other partition if it fails to boot up three times in a row. So the triple power-cycle (allowing it to start the boot process for 5 seconds but not finish loading) three times essentially sends the signal to use the other partition (and would be unlikely to be accidentally triggered that way under most circumstances). However, I believe that someone also mentioned it might take 4 or 5 power-cycles instead of 3 (possibly just an issue of getting the timing for the on/off cycle right).
I haven't started playing with them yet, so I'm not positive of all this, but that has been my understanding based on some of the posts from the previous thread. Some of the users more experienced with it can chime in if I've misinterpreted some of this.
Also, I think someone in the previous thread stated that holding the reset button for 30 seconds might automatically flash it back to stock firmware (although I don't recall seeing that discussed much and I don't know if that's accurate or if using the reset button might just be a way to reset your setting / configuration changes). Normally, I would suspect that a reset would just reset the config and not firmware, but not sure here.
This wiki is way too long IMO with random comments. Needs to just have instructions and pros/cons of different firmwares summarized
You'll need to install OpenWRT or DD-WRT

Stock, the second partition is unused. I don't know what would happen if you tried the 3x power cycle, whether it would automatically switch back to the original partition or if you would need to do the 3x power cycle again.
I have the master node bridged and connected to my modem/router.
But how do I get back into the master node after bridging? Right now I'm using the default wifi on the parent node to wirelessly connect and trying to CA but the child node is not responding
so for example in my home i have the following layout --
Verizon Modem/Router connected. Wifi radios disabled.
Linksys Master Node connected to Verizon Modem/Router in bridge mode and via ethernet cable -- to the LAN port I believe. Linksys Master Node serving a single SSID throughout floor one of my house.
Linksys Child Node 1 located on second floor of house. Ethernet traveling from LAN (might be WAN, i am working from memory) port of Linksys Child Node 1 through wall and down to first floor of house, into LAN port of Linksys Master Node. Linksys Child Node 1 serving same SSID throughout floor two of my house.
Linksys Child Node 2 located on third floor of house. Ethernet traveling from WAN (again, might be LAN) port of Linksys Child Node 2 through wall and down to first floor of house, into another LAN port of Linksys Master Node. Linksys Child Node 2 serving same SSID throughout floor three of my house.
I then also have a third child node to serve one particular distant room. This one is not hardwired back to the master node. This one is actually connected by wireless backhaul to the child node on my second floor.
I am planning to use the TMobile home internet + 1 or 2 of these Linksys routers. Is that what you mean by one Parent and wireless node?
He means he bought 3 of these Linksys and have them setup in a mesh with the 2 child nodes connected wirelessly. The Linksys parent node is connected to the T-Mobile gateway/router.
5G gateway to Main Linksys then Mesh Linksys.
Once this 2nd one setup you can move around to see where close enough to main "parent node", but closer to where you had a WiFi dead spot.
Unlike old wifi repeater from decade ago this has 3 radios so it doesn't need to cut WiFi speed in half to share connection back to main router.
At these prices no brainier yet 2

Wish there was a stable build of ddwrt to run VPN on these...
