Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

So your house will have 3 different mesh systems running at the same time? Seems like a recipe for channel congestion issues to me (maybe unless your neighbors are far enough away that their networks aren't also coming into play). Maybe you are seeing less performance with the Linksys because it doesn't deal with interference as well -- you already have so much going on just inside your home! BTW, my devices see faster speeds when connected to the upper 5GHz band -- but I am using wired backhaul.
It is counterintuitive to see the lower 5g band performing better, and not consistent with your and a couple other users' reports. It must be environmental, you're right, but not interference or congestion- I saw same results with the other 2 meshes powered off during the testing. Used this testing to highlight stats and experiments to my kid, so we took 30 sample speed tests for each device config to compare with eeros. Must be plaster walls with metal wire meshes as their bases? It's a small house, just a rambler with a finished basement, but built well in the late 40's.

It's actually not counterintuitive because the upper channel is twice as wide so more opportunities for interference.

I thought they were both 80mhz channels, but that the upper one was 4x4 mimo vs 2x2 mimo. Does that not just mean the upper one should have potentially higher transfer rate, but over the same channel width? Then signal strength and interference should theoretical be the same... Still trying to make sense of it.

Anyone know if it is possible to create an iot network on this router?

My Verizon has main network, guest network and iot and I'm trying to replicate that.

Canon laser without a network port? You sure?

Check that it doesn't have just a temporary plastic plug in it that can pull out. I know HP used to do this so you can use the USB cable to setup as WiFi when printer had no screen.

Stock firmware working fine for pretty much everyone it seems. Yes only basic mesh but surprisingly no headaches. I'm still going to try alternative FW but not on the 3 I have running my network...I somehow bought 3 more to play with once people make it easier. I used ddwrt, tomato etc decades ago was so so good
It's an older canon laser printer that doesn't have network printing, only usb. Canon d530.

Be warned if you flash openwrt - I made the mistake of upgrading to a recent release of the firmware on Arix00 GitHub page. All scripts/software from my previous openWRT firmware don't work...then I bricked the router by attempting to downgrade/flash the original sysupgrade.bin that once worked flawlessly (I got greedy and wanted to install sqm, which is why I tried to upgrade to a newer build)...somehow I managed to recover the latest unstable firmware by hitting the reset button on the router. Very lucky to have a working router again but I'm stuck with a build that doesn't work with any of my previously installed packages...tons of kernel errors. What a mess, I guess downgrading to an older version isn't possible with these snapshot builds. Be careful everyone.

/ has anyone managed to downgrade a few versions back when running into similar issues?

This router is dual partitioned and will switch to another one on each flash. Or you can switch to another partition(would be oem or your previous "working' openwrt) by running "fw_printenv boot_part"

if it's 1 then set it to 2, if 2, set it to 1:

"fw_setenv boot_part 1" or "fw_setenv boot_part 2"

then "reboot". This will get you to other partition and you can reflash and start over.

A couple of people have also mentioned that you can get it to switch partitions by doing a short power-cycle several times in a row. I think it's turn on 5 seconds, then off, then on again 5 seconds, off … and repeat that three times (although someone also said it took 4 or 5 times for them).

Yup, it's all on part 1 so I haven't touched part 2 yet. OpenWRT does have a recovery mode which is triggered by holding down any button (reset, WPS, etc.) during startup...I got lucky.

Managed to install the packages that gave kernel errors by running "rm /var/opkg-lists/openwrt_core*" and then installing them...lastly running "opkg update" to bring openwrt_core back. The only issue is that all my Wireguard interfaces don't work anymore even though the packages are now installed (they were once working before the flashed update)

What you said is true about OpenWRT (as long as you don't flash both partitions) but the person I was responding to was asking about the stock firmware.

Strange, I have checked three of my MX43000's that OpenWRT was not installed on. Each showed FW installed on both partitions if I am interpretting the following results properly. I would go to IP/sysinfo.cgi and look at output from "fw_printenv" and it shows :"boot_part=2". Then I would power off/on three times with 5 second delay while on to allow it to partially boot. After looking at output from "fw_printenv", it shows "boot_part=1". Doesn't this show that stock has both partitions occupied?

You may be right, I wasn't aware of this.

Anyone else using stock firmware and wireless backhaul to make multiple hops? I have self healing enabled, but my nodes refuse to connect in a sensible way.

Physical configuration:

Internet - Node A - Node B - Node C

But node C insists on connecting to node A with a super-weak signal and node B connects indirectly through node C which has a weak signal.

Anyone seen slowdowns from child nodes?

For example my plan is 1Gbps, when I'm next to the router (parent node). I'm getting about 6-700Mpbs from the Linksys where I was able to get 8-900Mbps directly from the Verizon router before.

The issue is when I go to another floor with the child node on the same floor my wifi speed drops to about 200-300Mbps. Are there any settings I can tweak to get higher speeds?

Trying to set up LN1301 as dumb access point with static IP. Stock firmware.

I have tried all methods, including "Connectivity - Internet Settings - Type .. -Static IP" before
switching to Bridge mode, yet AP (works but) always gets some other dynamic IP.

I know I can assign some static IP to LN1301 MAC address on a main router,
but prefer to set it on LN1301 itself. Is it possible? What am I missing here?
