Gen 2 can only hit the higher 550 torque spec with a 5.0 battery, but the power draw on the gen 1 is lower so you can use a 2.0 in some cases. Also seeing posts on social media of the gen 2 being defective for some and not providing much torque.
If you really need the extra torque but not the smaller size, the 1/2 M18 mid torque was only 219 with 5.0 (resistant?) on daily deal at HD last week.

The 2ND gen is one of the best wrenches ever made thus far, including 18v & 20v & air. However, the HIGH OUTPUT 5amp battery is mandatory, no smaller batteries.
Also change the title please, b/c this is called an impact WRENCH, not a driver. A Driver is a form of impacting screwdriver, so I thought it was the m12 driver, as I am looking for a next gen m12 surge impact driver on super sale.

This little rattle gun is better suited to 3/8 drive, but the 1/2 is by no means bad, I got it for a 2nd location.
I'd been waiting for it, but finally just ended up pulling the trigger on one of the recent Surge deals. No regrets either - it's significantly quieter/nicer to use; I'll grab it nearly every time over the (technically more powerful) gen 3 impact driver.
I've got this impact wrench too, but it's going to get upgraded to the new 550 ft-lb version once I get a deal on one. This one's a little anemic for getting lug nuts off quickly/reliably... but it's great for everything below that.

The Dewalt DW059 was a game changer for me back in 2010, it was about 5 times the size of that upcoming gen2 Milwaukee, and about half the torque 300ft lbs.
https://www.dewalt.com/product/dw...-tool-only
But that Dewalt was a game changer for me because it meant no more dragging electrical Cords around in man lifts for electric impacts, or before that air hoses, or before that just manually wrenching bolts.
