For this to work, your phone must:
- Work on the Verizon 4G/5G network with other carriers
- Have a physical SIM card slot (will not work for eSIM)
- Be unlocked so you can port it to other carriers
- Fail Spectrum's IMEI check (not really required, but no reason to do this if it passes the IMEI check)
It worked for my Tracfone/Samsung Galaxy a54.
Instructions:
1) Go to https://www.imei.info/google-imei-generator/
2) Generate an IMEI for a Google Pixel 6 Pro.
3) Sign up for the deal using that IMEI. They will ship a physical sim card for free.
4) Activate your phone using that card.
It's as easy as that. It worked. If it doesn't work for you, just cancel. No loss.
Great deal for me - I'm on a grandfathered $25/month internet plan, so for $25/mo, I'm getting high speed internet AND phone service!

So will I still be getting my total of $182 trade in amount off if I pay the phone off early, unlock, and proceed port out of spectrum? Or does that trade in amount (includes a $100 value bonus promo) only count if I stay with them for 3 years? I only pay $14 for service on Tello for more service than I even need, so honestly don't plan on sticking with Spectrum past the free year of service.
Would suck having to choose between forfeiting the remainder of my trade in "credits", or paying double my usual phone bill for two years.
If you go that route, you can do it at a Spectrum store and you get the credit immediately, instead of mailing it in and waiting.

- Buy a cheap, spectrum-locked phone off Swappa for $50 (probably a Galaxy a03s).
- Get it activated.
- Swap the SIM card into my a54.
- Recycle the original phone.
Why the hell would I do this?
My current phone (Galaxy a54) is with US Mobile on the Verizon network. Works great. Like the phone. Don't want to upgrade.
But, Spectrum doesn't activate Galaxy A series phones that originally came from Tracfone like mine did. It fails Spectrum's IMEI check.
Alternate ideas are:
- Buy a phone from Spectrum and swap the SIM, but their cheapest smartphone is the a15 at $200, less $100 if I can dig up a trade-in. I was also considering the a35, which is a lot like my a54, but it's overpriced at $300 ($200 with trade). Paying $200+ for basically the same phone I have now isn't a great deal.

- Use that when registering online with Spectrum. The IMEI will be accepted, and they will send you a SIM kit free.
Use that SIM in whatever phone you have that will work on the Verizon network. In my case, I know my Galaxy a54 works on Verizon.
So, I'm past the first hurdle. Next, we'll see if it activates.
If it doesn't, the SIM kit was free. No risk.

then swapped the sim into my 'unsupported' motorola phone. it worked.
