These are quite useful. A regular recprocating saw is heavy and requires 2 hands,. This is one and great to cut thick branches and roots. I would buy it if I didnt already own one. Get a demolition blade with this.

Its a low TPI (5-7) blade typically used for demolition work. Used to make quick cuts through multimaterial. Does fast work through branches, roots. Wont get destroyed cutting roots. The blades that come with the saw are mediocre and you wont appreciate the tool until you get a decent blade.

Not bad but fyi they released an updated version that is supposedly quite a bit better. I have the old one and it's fine but if I was buying now I'd probably get the new version. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI.../329062475

Surprised that someone doesn't make a meat carving blade for reciprocating saws.

Now I kind of wonder if those electric meat carving knives that came out in the 60s are what inspired the idea for a reciprocating saw.🤔

How much would a battery and charger be for this?

About the cheapest battery/charger kit at HD right now is $80 -- for a charger with a 4 Ah and 2 Ah battery. Howerver you could search around online and maybe find something cheaper.

If you don't have any tools in a given ecosytem, the cheapest way is to wait for a starter set deal, (like drill with battery and charger).

If you don't care about the one-handed, lighter weight features, I posted a deal for the standard sized saw, with the above mentioned batteries/charger for $100.

I had to argue with the manager at my local HD for the price. Online it said 1 in stock for $60. I looked at the clearance section and it wasn't there, I found it caged up underneath the full-size one. took it to the register and rang up at $120, I showed the cashier the website with the price and he called the manager. Initially, she said that was the online price but I showed her that you can't buy it online and it is in stock on clearance. Afterward, she said it was not in their system at that price but could make things better by taking off $40. I argued a bit more and finally gave me the correct price.
Now I understand what the lawsuit is about.

Does a demo blade work better on branches and roots than a pruning blade designed for branches and roots?

I've had good success with a pruning blade for that, but it never occurred to me to try a demolition blade.
I think dedicated purpose blades tend to be better, but then you need different ones. A pruning blades is usually 3 TPI and good for cutting clean wood. 3 TPI means it will cut faster thru clean wood. A demo blade is higher TPI 7-11, can cut thru nails (which is why they call it a demolition blade), thicker and stronger. If you are cutting branches, I think a pruning blade is better, If you want a blade that is more general purpose and heavier duty, and can do lots more tasks, a demo blade works. For example, I would use the demo blade to knock down pallets, but I wouldnt want to use a pruning blade in case I hit a nail. I wanted a demo blade also for root cutting, since it is thicker.

Depending what you are cutting I have been finding the demo blades have some advantages. The higher tooth count is slower, but it seems to handle a little better on freehand/flexible/loose stuff.

The carbide diablo pruning blade is a beast, but it can be prone to grabbing and shaking the item rather than cutting it if you can't get good work positioning.

Yeah, I have the milwaukee version and it has been fantastic. Super glad I didn't go with a full size reciprocating saw.

I have a full size before Ryobi started selling these one handers. Now that I have both, I rarely use the full size one. If it is that thick, I use the one handed chain saw.

Paid around $40 for this. It's not bad. Just another reciprocating saw. I have a Kobalt as well and they both do the job, but I prefer the Kobalt.

The smaller brushless OP (tool only) or this non-brushless link below? I'm looking for versatility and value. Probably not a tool I use often but will be happy to have it when I do.

Maybe I get this OP Ryobi and wait for a SD on the Ridgid full size? Ridgid is my main tool squeeze, Ryobi is the less expensive and used less often fill in brand / line.

Thoughts? Anyone??

The ridgid brushless is a real saw with an orbital stroke that's twice as long and it's got a lot more power.

Last October, the bare ridgid BL tool was available for $70-ish as part of the Black Friday deals. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGI.../315976333

It's an apples to oranges comparison though. These ryobi one handers are meant for quick, light cuts.

Good point, thanks. I'll run with this for now and if the full-sized Ridgid turns up at a good price I'll get it as well.
