Most BANKS use a system called Chex https://www.chexsystems.com/ to check your history related to deposit-accounts (checking, savings). Your Chex history has info like how many deposit accounts you had opened within the past 1 months, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 24 months. Some banks use the info to weed out the "churners". Some banks' criteria are stricter than others. Your Chex history also shows how many times you had overdrawn, wrote bad checks, etc. The BANKS don't really care about your credit history unless you're applying for credit cards. For some reasons, many Credit Unions pull your credit history even when applying for deposit accounts.

You can request a free copy of your Chex report from the link above. Here's sample of a Chex Report https://www.chexsystems.com/-/med...B8B1FB087C
US Bank is pretty lenient about which deposits are considered DDs. Lots of people on www.doctorofcredit.com [doctorofcredit.com] reported that ACH transfers from Ally, Chase, CapOne, etc were accepted as DDs to get the bonus. I just opened a US Bank Smartly Checking on 9/24/24 on a promo (expired 9/26) that gives $450 bonus for $8000+ total in DDs within 90 days. I pushed $4100 from Ally to US Bank on 9/26. Will do another one in early October.
$400 is a good bonus, but $5000/90 days in DD is a pretty high hurdle, but doable for me.

- Paid biweekly.
- Week 1-2: $0.01 from first paycheck just to make sure the direct deposit posts. (I always do that)
- Week 3-12: $1000 each from the next five paychecks.

84 days max. If that first penny doesn't post though, I'm screwed out of the $400.

Think I may go for the Truist deal instead. $500 in DD is easier.

currently waiting on the $250 checking account bonus from the offer they had a few months back. i've seen that it can take up two weeks from the last deposit that hits the requirements for the bonus to post.

Can anyone speak to how good their bill pay is? I'm looking to leave Fifth Third because I pay every ebill when they notify me but then on the due date get a notification that I haven't scheduled my payment when I've already paid it, really annoying.

Application declined. Called to ask why. Representative says Delaware residents can not open an account. I didn't see anything about state restrictions in the application but maybe I missed that info somewhere.

Just be careful I have read on post that some times they will not give bonuses and will make excuses. Happened with few friends even after meeting all conditions

How do you do an ACH transfer from CapOne? Log into your Cap1 acc, link your external US Bank, verify to 2 small deposits, then make the transfer from Cap 1 into US? Because I called and spoke to a rep and she said transfer from Cap1 doesn't count. She could be wrong or it could be the way in which the money is being transferred, IE logging into US Bank and requesting the money from there, vs logging into Cap 1 and sending the money into the US bank acc. Could that possibly be the case? If you or anyone knows for sure, please let me know as I've just created an acct and trying to do the DD via Cap1. Thanks.

Rule #1 when doing bank bonuses is NOT to call the bank and ask if certain ACH transfers will qualify as Direct Deposits. That will give them a hint that people are trying to circumvent their DD requirements and they will tighten up their rules. Use the link to doctorofcredit in my post on 9/28 to see datapoints from people who had successess or failures with ACH from various banks to US Bank.

Doing an ACH from CapOne is like you describled. For me, I'm doing ACH from my Ally Savings to US Bank. The 1st one was done in Sept and was recorded as "Deposit" (not Transfer). I will do the 2nd one next week, and wait to see if US Bank will pay out the bonus.

If one used fake DDs and US Bank doesn't pay the bonus, there's not much one can do. But if your friends use legitimate DDs from their jobs or S.S. benefits, file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and they will make US Bank provide a response on why they didn't pay the bonus.

I just signed up with Bask Bank https://www.baskbank.com/products...ng-account . They currently have a promotion that if you use their Bill Center in their Checking account to pay two bills totalling $50+ in a month then you get $50 bonus for that month, up to 4 months from Sept 2024 through March 2025. I signed up in mid-Sept, deposited a few hundred dollars. Paid two credit card ebills (CapOne and Citi) totalling $50+ before end of Sept and got $50 credit in my account on 10/1. I set up the bills to be paid on 9/23 and the credit card companies received the epayments on 9/25. I'll repeat that for 3 more months.
